I found this quote from a 2014 @Rose_Queen ::wavey:: post, but it bespeaks an older origin. Many familiar names if you go searching around using the bug search window. Be sure to check the box for “all terms” in your returns, or you’ll drown in unrelated stuff.
“The self-proclaimed crusty old bats are some of the posters I have learned the most from here at allnurses. And it may help to know the back story of the crusty old bat phrase- it came about after a newbie showed up, showing an attitude of extreme entitlement, and used it in a derogatory manner. Rather than get offended, us crusty old bats and future crusty old bats claimed the phrase and turnED it into an inside joke.”
Likewise, the term “old biter nurses” was a likely typo for “bitter,” but we embraced it in its absurdity and peripheral connection to NETY, “nurses eat their young.” Which we don’t, because somehow we survived our callow years of being corrected and now, older and wiser as the old ones before us were, are living proof of not having been eaten in the process and now seek only to make current newbies too tough to chew on.
This blast from the past is brought to you by …. well, you know.

And we will have to deal with the ramifications of a discussion critiquing the changes, no matter how objectively factual.

I just briefed through the two threads that kbrn brought back and went "WOW! Things have changed!"
It would be so nice to be able to post like that again! And some of the seasoned members that I once enjoyed reading their posts haven't visited in quite some time. Others continue to post, yet have changed their style.

Oh to be appropriately freely & honestly open to express ourselves!
Glad you understand where I’m coming from and sorry I wasn’t as clear in expressing it. I think the “changed their style” part is quite true, and quite telling.
Personally, I don’t feel that free-wheeling, carefree, crusty, and occasionally goofy is as acceptable anymore as ‘twas then, like those after work meetups with a pitcher of beer or a few other libations were already in play. It can’t be because we’re older and wiser— that’s what liberates us in the first place. Even saying this I feel like looking over my electronic shoulder to see if it’s OK to talk. There are things I long to express even if we can’t use colors and Comic Sans, LOL. Is the charge nurse listening? Will the counseling go in my personnel jacket in HR? The price of gracious sufferance is self-censorship? Is that it? Or …? What am I missing? Other than….well, you know.

I spent the afternoon on the Blue Side, which I hadn't visited since January '20 - a year and a half- and oh what a joy it was!
Some of my old virtual Blue Side friends were still there, and a couple from this Yellow Side. I read a 600+ post thread, nearly in its entirety, that had me laughing so hard I was crying!
I believe that I will be hanging out on the Blue Side a little more often.

I guess I'll go there, give it a try, and see. I haven't been here much lately, but as you guys state, it just ain't the same anymore...

You lost me there. Between the “Nuh-uh, says (me)” and the big-girl-panties thing, I mean, what’s your point? I’m not allowed to wax nostalgic for a past community? Or something else?
