What do you do to relieve your stress?

Published

As a student in nursing school I have had to learn creative ways to relieve my stress. So I am curious what do you do to help relieve all the stress?

Specializes in Emergency/Cath Lab.

My friends call me the DJ. Im always blasting music. It helps calm me down. I go ride my bike on some trails too to help. Anything to just get my mind to wander really. Oh and x2 on the Call of Duty

Eat- Which is awful- I am a huge stress/study eater I have found out- I have packed on so many pounds- and it was interesting at the end of last semester I was like holy crap I gained 13 pounds- over the summer it was just magically gone- back to school and within 6 weeks it was back. I can't wait to have time to work out again- I work FT M-F 9a-5p, class & clinicals three nights a week till 10pm and clinical 10 hours on Sat. Sunday is time to see my three kids and clean my house, maybe wash some clothes for them. So I truly do not have the time or energy to workout right now. No not even 1/2 an hour a day. I'm always rushing from work to class and up till 1 or 2 studying, then up at 6a for work. & get the kids on the bus.- I'm so tired I'm so glad we are on Christmas break and I can sleep normal for three weeks. Sleep is my other stress reliever - and Tylenol- lot's of Tylenol for my headaches. The thought of going back to school again, my last semester, it is stressing me out just to think about. I can't wait for May to be here.

I play wii with my son (great investment), walk while listening to my ipod, treadmill, blast my car radio while I sing (I am alone of course), do relaxation meditation tapes, go out with fellow nursing students for karaoke night (and drink way to much), and dance, laugh, and get crazy.

Specializes in Home Health.

I listen to the radio in my truck really loud...especially on test days. I also tend to go to hard rock shows when the stress level gets too high. Something about a dark, smoky room and ear blasting noise just puts me on cloud nine.

Specializes in Cardiology, LTC, SANE.

I like to listen to music, write, and dance. Even if it's to my I-Pod in my room, it really helps me "get away from it all" and calm down.

Specializes in critical care: trauma/oncology/burns.

I eat chocolate, drink lots of hot tea and Pepsi, and go for really long walks.

I recently PCS-ed to El Paso, TX and the members from my old squad (when I was a civilian I was a SGT on the Rescue Squad - EMT) sent me a Christmas package. Inside that package was a small soccer ball and they named it "Nurse Baby Wilson". So now besides eating chocolate and drinking Pepsi and tea I can talk to Baby Wilson [for which my kids are eternally grateful, ha ha ha]

Defecate...but it truly is a great stress reliever especially if you are under a certain, ahem, amount of stress. ;)
