What about buying those ice pack things for a mini cooler or lunch box to help keep items cool? Then you could probably pack whatever you wanted... :)
I'm a big fan of these:) I usually pack a pudding or yogurt and a sandwich of some type. When I forget to refreeze my ice packs I'm usually stuck w. a pb sandwich and some cheezits or graham crackers.
Get two ice packs. Keep a spare one in the freezer in case you forget to take the other one out of your lunch box. These work really well and help to widen your food choices.
Another option is to put a sandwich or leftovers in a microwaveable container into the freezer the night before. If the food isn't thawed by lunchtime, you can nuke it for a few seconds. You'd probably be nuking the leftovers anyway. Ham and cheese sandwiches are really good this way.
WOW.
Maybe at her last job/school/whatever the OP had access to a refrigerator. Maybe she went home for lunch. Maybe lunch was provided. You don't have to be so rude.
Maybe she's tired of cup of noodles and wants some variety!!
To the OP: have you seen the Packit lunch bags? My hubby and daughter have one for their lunches. The website is http://www.packit.com and they fold up and store in the freezer. In the morning, you take it out and unfold it, and fill it with your lunch. It keeps things very cold. It is basically just a lunch bag with ice packs built into the sides of the bag. It rocks!
Young male poster may be accustomed to doing what my boys did when they were first on their own--spending money on fast food. They thought taking a lunch was uncool. I balked at how much money they there shelling out when they could have spent half (or less!) on a packed lunch. Now that they are older and have more expenses, they have developed an appreciation for brown bagging it.Honestly, though, was your mommy still making your lunches til last week? You really need help c this?
Another factor that helps motivate use of a lunchbox is lack of time. Might be too short an interval between classes to duck out to Mickey D's or Subway. Suddenly, the light bulb goes on--Hey, I could bring my own food!
Oddly enough, my girls jumped on the lunchbox bandwagon much earlier in the game. They were penny pinchers like me from the start and are still highly frugal to this day. The boys are getting there.
Their dad and I have taken our lunches for eons, as we both work nights.
Congrats to the OP for taking this great leap forward. I'm serious. This shows planning and initiative. You can choose what you like and save a few bucks in the bargain. Most excellent!
My daughters have tupperware type things that you put the lid in the freezer..it has some sort of gel or whatever that freezes. You pop in whatever it is you want to keep cold..snap the top on :) I got them at Staples one year while getting school supplies. Works great..

Also..I stick my daughters juices/drinks in the freezer, they double as an ice pac in her lunch bagk..so by the time she has lunch, its thawed enough to drink..but still ice cold and all the time it was in the lunch bag, it was keeping the other foods cold. Also, I stick her go-gurt (yogurt shaped like a freezer pop type thing) in the freezer, it acts as another ice pack and melts in time for her to eat it, and even if its not completly thawed, she still likes it because its then like a smoothy.
