This is my first year as a school nurse, so not sure what to do for principal's day? I have an elem and middle school principal. The elementary principal has jumped through hoops for me, and is basically the reason the district created my position.
We are medical professionals working in an educational environment. A non-medical person will never fully understand all we do. I don't think we will ever get fully acknowledged for what we do for students. I have been at my school for 4 years, and never once has anyone acknowledged nurses week, let alone school nurse day. I gave up caring.
Our staff recognizes the principal on principal's day with a gift card and flowers from the flower fund that I contribute to from everyone. I don't do an individual gift. The same thing for secretary's day. If you really want to do something I'd just suggest a nice card.
I usually get nothing for nurse's day-not even a "Happy Nurse's Day" comment. They lump me in on staff appreciation week. Which is fine because it's not like we have a cook appreciation day or custodian or counselor day, etc and they are all important too.
My secretary EXPECTS something and gets a little miffed if she gets nothing. One year the principal was getting her something at lunch but until then she kept going on and on about how no one seemed to appreciate her. Ok well welcome to the club.
