What is your pre-nursing GPA?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am beating myself up because I got two A- which will put my GPA down to a 3.94. I was shooting for a 4.0, but it looks like I won't achieve that. I know a 4.0 isn't necessary to get into nursing school, but I'm afraid that my GPA will hurt me.

Am I being too hard on myself? What is/was your GPA? Did you make it (if you know) into a nursing program?

Thanks :)

You'll get in AmyBeth - 3.25 is actually a good GPA. You're right about prayer :-) More has been accomplished thru prayer than most people will ever realize. I'm 55 y.o. male BTW so I'm making a career change here too - looking forward to becoming a nurse someday myself. Math was sort of hard for me too - not really my thing, but actually ended up getting a B in it. I have a few prayer groups that I'm a part of pray for my success in getting into nursing school, and it helps just to know that people out there are doing this on my behalf. If you belong to one yourself, don't be shy about asking for other's intercessory prayers on your behalf. The suggestion that you look into schools or community colleges that go by lottery instead of GPA is a good one - the down side is that you'll have to wait a while. That's what I'm doing - I finished my pre-reqs and applied to nursing school with a GPA of 3.59 but they don't really take GPA into account. Will probably take some other non-req allied health courses while I'm waiting to get in. Take care and God Bless

I really think it is ridiculous and unfair for some schools to count +/- into GPA and not at other schools!! Anyway, my GPA is 3.72 and science GPA is 4.0. I just hope that is good enough!!

4.0 but my school averages that with your test scores and stuff

2.568:cry:

Yea. I know that's pretty bad, but this is like my first semester in college ever! I defintely trying harder this semester in order to raise my GPA.

I'm at 3.8 right now, hoping to get A's in my last semester of pre-reqs, A&P and Psych to pull myself up to a 3.9 before selection.

3.3 I am not happy with it either. Taking ap2 with two other classes in the summer was a very bad idea. I ended with a c in that class so down went my gpa. At this point I am still getting my cna next month and hoping for the best when I apply. If it is meant to be it will be. Either way I have a back up plan which is my health and wellness track.

GPA 3.0 I got a C in micro, I hate micro decided not to retake it over. Hoping to get in for the Spring 2012 class. So tired of prereqs, ready to start actual nursing classes.

I have a 4.0, but got my first B in Pharmacology. I began to beat myself up until I heard this:

You know what they say... A is excellent... B is great, but a C = RN.

"Don't focus too much on your GPA; just make sure you're understanding what you learn." That's what the classmates before me had to say during orientation. They also began to say, "A students become C students and the individuals that barely made it by in their prerequisites usually fail.

I think you are doing great! Keep up the good work and good luck! :D

Sorry, forgot to answer:

Yes, I made it into Nursing school and my first class starts on the 29th. Pharmacology, which I just passed with my 1st B, was the class I needed to pass to get into Nursing school. The school that I am going to asks that you pass the Math Pharmacology Test with a 90% or higher to get into the program, even if you passed the class with a C average.

I'm class of 2013. I asked around and there are students with a 3.0 that made it too. You're ALL GOOD!

I'm glad of where my GPA is right now at a 3.8, but I feel a bit stressed for the fact that one of my instructors said that the average accepted GPA for the LPN Program at my school is a 3.7 - I pretty much only have room to make an A and a B in this last semester of my pre-reqs to be in that safety zone for the GPA part, at least (for my own comfort, LOL). but they are definitely talking up the competition aspect! I wasn't even thinking of my competition in the class for entry into the program until BOTH of my instructors brought it up one the first day of class today, but maybe it's a good thing I'm aware now. :o

Good luck everyone!
