What is your passing percentile?

Right now 76% is passing. I guess next semester they are bumping it up to 80%. Scary- eek!

Ours is 80% in each class. If you are below 80% in any class you are out. They do round up. We are starting our 2nd qtr tomorrow, so we will see who we have lost. So far before the qtr ended we lost 4 out of 46

Ouch, anything below a 79 is failing at my school

Our School is 75% with no rounding, a math exam every semester that has to be passed with a 90% (3 tries).

Considering 1 out of 14 students passed the Med-Surg II exam today, 75% can be very hard to maintain. (The class average on the exam was 60%!!!)

we have to get a 75% average on our tests first, then they add in the rest. no rounding! 74.9 is failing! lost a lot of people that way! we also have to take a math exam (med calculations and such) every semester (sometimes two per semester, one in the beginning and one in the end) and get a 90%. you only get two chances and then you're done! we have a little bit of math on some of our regular exams too, which helps out alot!

I cannot believe that a passing grade less than 80 is acceptable for nursing students in nursing courses. You are dealing with real people and 70% of the knowledge just does not cut it for me. I understand that school just gives you the basics and nursing is largely an on the job training profession. However, if you are happy with 70's and think 80 and higher is too tough then I really think you should re-consider the profession.

Lab values, diagnosis, critical thinking, are all vital to nursing and patient safety, I really do not think a 70 is acceptable.

I realize I am an old nurse but all of you will be taking care of me and I would like to think you know what you are doing and can interpert data more than 70% of the time.

At my school passing is a 75%

Our passing percentile has been 74%. We were just notified over break that they are raising it to 78%. We lost 20 students last semester. My schools NCLEX pass rate is only in the low 70's. I am in a BSN program. My school's philosophy is that it is the students fault for the poor NCLEX pass rate and takes no responsibility for the lack of proper preparation by the professors who teach the classes. I am a junior and resent that the passing % applies to students already at this stage of their schooling. I thought it would have been more fair had it been changed for incoming nursing students.

Our grading scale in general is odd:

93.0-100 - A

89.0-92.99 - AB

85.0-88.99 - B

82.0-84.99 - BC

78.0-81.99 - C

74.0-77.99 - D

Below a 74 - Fail

No rounding of grades. Each examination grade will be computed to the one-hundreth. The final grade for all course work will also be computed to the one-hundreth.

I find this a bit harsh. Opinions? :uhoh3:

77.5 here too...you will fail with a 77.4!! I am in a night weekend program and we have only lost 4 people out of 36...we are going into our last semester...the day program only had 15 out of 56 make it through this fall semester! YIKES!!!! Our NCLEX passing is 98%

I'm pretty sure that 77% is the lowest you can make in our school. I'm in an ADN program and out of 28 original students there are now 26. One woman dropped out because her husband got really sick (which is justified), but we've had one guy (the only other guy aside from me) who's already failed out because he didn't pass clinical, in which you had to get 80% at least.

The ONLY thing I don't like about this system is that the minium A is 93%... Because multiple times I've gotten 92% on tests.. :angryfire

Ours is 80% in theory and clinical for Nursing and Pharm is 80% in dosage lab and Theory. They do not round and you must have 80% in all 4 areas to pass. They look at them as 4 different classes. We have about a 40% pass rate for Nursing I. I go to a community college and they placed #1 on our State Lic Exam for the most people to pass on their 1st try. They beat all the Big Universities.

My school is at 77% and we all think that's tough as heck! Thank God it's not higher. Our NCLEX pass rate each semester is between 95-100% though which is exceptional for our area...we also have to take the exit HESI too and pass to graduate.

Our lowest allowable passing percentage is 80%....it's been that way for as long as I can remember.
