What is it about nursing students....

Nursing Students General Students

that makes them so godawful stupid?

I swear, it must be a requirement to exchange your brain for a spot in the program. I just spent a very long morning in orientation (hello? I'm a SENIOR student) where students (seniors like me) asked all kinds of stupid questions that we already know the answers to.

And why do I have to come in for orientation so the instructor can read us the syllabus? Are we all suddenly illiterate? And a seminar on time management? I could scream!

Its just totally ridiculous. They could do all this the first day of class and save a bunch of time and a 100 mile drive for me (50 miles to the central campus each way).

"What do you think is the best way to study?"

"Should we read the material before or after the lecture?"

"Will we have a tutor again?"

On and on and on....

I left after lunch.

Sorry, needed to vent.

Because the people in charge of my program are obviously CRACKHEADS.

You're funny! :chuckle

Fear. the whole point of it is fear. My nursing class got slammed during the fall semester of our junior year. At the beginning of the next semester, the class was so scared that they stopped having any signs of independent thought whatsoever. The air was filled with negativity. Then we had a totally different professor who had a very positive attitude & helped everyone chill out & start to think again...alas, there was no hope for some...they were too far gone!

You will be surprised at how much more mature and comfortable everyone is by the second year. Eltrip is right; fear is a lot of it.

I do believe Rebecca said she is a senior nursing student. Maturity and comfort should be long established at this point.

Ooops. Mea culpa, missed that (glad there were no flamethrowers out and about! :) ). Some people do go into nursing who shouldn't, that's for sure.

That's part of why I am so irked. Because I have no need to be re-oriented.

More of guiding the herd, I suppose.

I think I'm getting a little carried away with this livestock imagery.

i think you choose the wrong program. Our program we weed out the week and ones unable to think critically. we only graduate people with critical thinking skills, we encourage individuality do not condone the herd mentality at all. it is a shame some programs are like that!

Mark:

I go to the only nursing school in my area. There simply are no other choices available to me right now, and I'm almost finished (2 semesters left), so I'm really not interested in transferring my credits and having to start partially or completely over someplace else.

I wish I had a great, positive program like the one you describe.

Hehe they tried that "only work 20 hours/week" crap with me. I raised my hand and said "Umm, if I could afford that I wouldn't be going to community college!" I still have two jobs and am doing just fine in school. Getting sick of the retail one though (not the customers, the company itself) so it may be time to get my CNA certification.

LMAO at rebecca's class pic heather!!
