With all the news going around about MRSA infections, I got to thinking......if only I could concoct a "curative" lavender scented Vancomycin room spray....
Therefore I ask, what would your most useful nursing device, invention, or concoction be? Hmmmm......Valium "flavored" pixy dust.....attitude adjustment darts (they come in cardiologist strength, surgeon strength, I am the doctor strength and a slew of other effective varieties.
hmm, not a nursing invention per se, but it would make life easier on the floor! How about a "slide" like in an RV, that you could have in a room, so if you needed more room to move equipment, accomodate personnel, you could hit a button, and the room would slide out giving you about 6 more feet!!
IV Tylenol
It does exist. Seems to be pretty effective, too.

Darn it- now I can't invent it & be a millionaire! I've never heard of it before- no hospital I've worked at has ever carried it!
Sounds like it will be soon :)Darn it- now I can't invent it & be a millionaire! I've never heard of it before- no hospital I've worked at has ever carried it!

Specialty drug company Cadence Pharmaceuticals said yesterday that it raised $60.8 million to license and develop an intravenous form of acetaminophen, the key ingredient in common pain pills such as Tylenol.
The privately held San Diego company used an undisclosed portion of the financing to acquire North American rights to the IV acetaminophen formulation from Bristol-Myers Squibb Co.
The drug to which Cadence is acquiring the rights was approved in Europe in 2001. It brings in about $180 million a year in revenue for Bristol-Myers and its partners, according to Chu.
Cadence plans to launch Phase 3 clinical studies in the U.S. to test the drug late this year or early next year according to Schroeder.
I'd want a PDA to be assigned to me every shift, much like the cell phone. It would have a keyboard to chart with and it would plug into universal ports located in and outside of each patient's room, at each nursing station and pod where there are real chairs.I would also like to see stools attached to each chart station outside of each room that can fold up and collapse back into the wall so we can sit while charting away from the nurse's desk.
Finally, the nurse who could get admin to fund the following perks would be my personal hero:
- Foot massagers and massaging recliner in a special break room for staffers who have to work over their shift.

- A couple of private showers for the nurses.
- Free on-site child care.
- Free healthcare benefits with no deductibles.
believe it or not in germany you actually have showers on each and every unit, also you change there you never go home with scrubs and the hospitals wash them for you
also we have the child care , free of course

A "potty-bed" for bed bound patients, with an opening just where the behind is, with a bedpan to fit in a slot, which when removed, activates a bidet kind of thing that washes said behind, and has a padded lever that pats it dry. Then the hole is filled with a fitted mattress filler until the patient has to "go" again, and presses the "toilet" button. (just perfect for patients who constantly call during report).

I need to get my pannus jack into production. No need for co-workers to provide a pannus lift, or for any nurse to get cheese on his/her arm.
