I know nursing in itself is hard but I just wanted to know what you all think what nursing field is easiest to do and which is the hardest?

IMO, based on amount of work-stress-downtime:

EZ-mode: psych nursing, its like baby sitting

Hard-mode: MedSurg, mainly because of the large census

Easiest: whatever you most enjoy

Hardest: whatever you least enjoy

Color me astonished.

Have you ever actually done any psychiatric nursing?

Really, it's impossible to qualify which area of nursing is hardest or easiest. Is there something you would specifically like to know?

Based on my limited experiences in nursing school...

hardest: med-surg or adult ER

easiest: mother-baby nurse

psych seems pretty easy too, if there are aids or LPNs taking care of the dirty work.

Not trying to offend anyone... I'm just a student and don't really know anything yet. This is just my impression based on rotations at local hospitals.

Really Psych nursing, ez! Really???? NOOOOOOOOOOOO....try providing care to a pt who is combative and manages to remove your scrub top, from your body, on the floor...true story...

I suppose desk jobs are easy. But every job has it's stresses and difficulties.

Easy physically, perhaps. The mental and emotional strain are unbelievable sometimes, not to mention the fact that staff doesn't think you're actually DOING anything when you sit at that desk. It never occurs to them that you are constantly thinking, thinking, thinking.......they just see you at a computer and assume you're sitting there playing Farmville while they slave away. Not so.

mother-baby seemed to be the easiest in-patient nursing job when I was in school, but I never did it as an RN.

tele seems hardest because you have a high ratio, med-surg crappiness going on, and patients that probably arent quite ready to be out of ICU

"if there are aids or LPNs taking care of the dirty work"....

Truth be said, any level of nursing has its dirty work, and if you find

an area that doesn't......then this is the easiest:-)
