Hi all,
I need some guidance. I went for a job interview today and it is doing senior home care. Originally it was a full time position and as we were talking during the interview it came up that I was in my FNP program. So I expressed to her that I really want to pursue this and start working as an FNP when I am done. I told her it will take me two years to finish but in reality it will not. I think if all goes according to plan I should finish by this time next year. Anyhow, she then said well maybe you can do part time or per diem with us and we will train you the same way we would have trained you as if you were hired as a full time. I told her that this would be something that I would be interested in. The pay is $36 per hr which is fine with me. I would not be traveling to the seniors home they are all in an assisted living facility and would be doing the home care there but would be traveling throughout the three sites. So I left off with that interview and just said ok if I get it I get it, if not oh well.
I get home and then I get another call from one of my recruiters I have been working with and she got me an interview for Monday 6/20 and I told her I would go. She said that they are really looking for someone to work in Westchester and bronx doing homevisits. She said that they are really interested in my resume and want to meet me ASAP. So I told her I will go Monday. While I am on the phone with the recruiter, the lady from senior home care calls me and asks me when can I start that they are willing to take me on. I told her next week some time. She really caught me off guard. I did not know what to say and that was the first thing that popped out of my mouth. I told my recruiter what happened and she asked me to still go on this interview which I would anyway because maybe she could work out a schedule with me if the other one is part time. The interview on monday is willing to train as well on how to do their paperwork etc... Then if that don't beat all, I was working with someone else from a long time ago and he called asking me can I start somewhere next week. He left a message and I did not call back yet....
What do you do in situations like this. When I decide to take something or say I am interested then other offers start coming in. I mean I am not complaining because I know times are rough, but I want to be happy where I decide to go.
Just looking for some advice from my allnurses family....

I'd go with the one that would make you the happiest.
Consider pay, location, hours, nurse to pt ratio, environment/staff, and how far it is from you.
Maybe you could make a pros/cons list for each one and then make a decision.
Good luck and congrats on the offers.

Trendz: I had a similar situation over the past few weeks (& I'm a new grad!!) Hospital A (a 50 mile one-way commute) pretty much told me they would be calling me with a verbal offer after my 2nd interview.
Well, they didn't call me the day they said they would & Hospital B (10 mile one-way commute & I precepted there) called me for an interview. It was totally nervewracking, because while Hospital A is an amazing hospital, so is Hospital B and without the killer commute!!
You can ask 100 different people and you will get 100 different answers on what to do. (I asked 10 and received 10 different answers on how to delay the offer from A until I interviewed with B...) In the end, I went with the truth..and verbally accepted my offer from Hospital A...and haven't heard back from Hospital B, because a bunch of internal candidates came into play at the last minute...
If you get an offer, don't cancel any interviews until you get an offer in WRITING!! And even when you do, just say you want some time to review it and discuss with your significant other, etc...
Maybe write out a pros/cons list of the 3 different places...but in the end, go with your gut. Hopefully, you'll end up where you're supposed to be.
Thanks Packersfan and S|1011.
I will make a list of pros and cons for both when I go on Monday. I hate holding off one for the other but I guess that is what I have to do until I know for sure.

Take 'em to the bank. Seriously, you have leverage to try and negotiate a higher salary. Won't hurt to ask for more. :)

I would very professionally call the other place and say something like, "Thank you for taking the time to interview with me. I have given this job offer lots of thought but I received another offer that is better suited to my skills and experience. I appreciate the opportunity and I hope you will keep my file on record for the future."
.... or something to that extent.
