What do you do with your limited spare time?

Published

Hi:

I need to vent. Between work, school, clinical, family, starting an expediting business which is going to takeoff, and other general thing's my time is limited and I am feeling burnt out. I would love to do what I enjoy best which is playing World of Warcraft but when I do I feel guilty so I just don't play. World of Warcraft is a time consuming game but the people I play with are practically family because I have been playing various games with the same people since 2000 so I enjoy their company.

For some reason when school starts I put this thought in my head that I can no longer play because school has started but when I'm not playing I find myself browsing the web reading forums anyway. I am considering trying to squeeze in World of Warcraft because I am just burning myself out and I need a getaway. If I do not have something to go to I feel like I am going to be miserable and I do not want to spend another semester miserable.

Does everyone have a getaway and if so does it consume alot of your free time and if so do you feel guilty? I hope my post makes sense hehe.

I like to veg on the couch and watch all of the tv shows I tape during the week - Grey's, House, So You Think You Can Dance, Glee, Fringe, etc. I'm super behind on all of them, but it's nice to watch an episode or two and just relax for a little bit.

Hi there,

I am also a nursing student, and it is my first semester and my schedule is already pretty hectic. The way I have found to best balance things out by using my spare time efficiently, is doing things I enjoy, and things that energize me. You mentioned that you were feeling burnt out. One thing that may sound like it doesn't make sense ( but it does, I promise ) is to spend some of your free time exercising. This may sound like it just would make you more tired because it takes up energy, but what it really does, is it makes it so you have more energy throughout the day, and makes you sleep better and more efficiently at night. Don't go overboard and work out a lot if you aren't used to it, because that will just wipe you out. Just small things like even a 10-15 minute brisk walk makes a huge difference.

You also mentioned you liked to play "World of WarCraft" during your free time and that you aren't letting yourself, but then spend time browsing forums on it anyways. It is important to incorporate things you like to do for fun into your schedule, it will help you feel balanced mentally and make you feel better over all. Allow yourself specific times to play it, like 15 minutes four days a week or something, and look at a clock, and make sure you don't go over, and if you finish your homework or studying some evening, treat yourself to it. If you don't play at all, you will just want to even more, and be even more miserable. With nursing school, just after these first four weeks, I have found that balancing your time and energy is really key to being happy and successful as a student. You will get through it, and you will graduate. Try out my ideas and see how it goes!

I just make time to do fun things unless something REALLY PRESSING is coming up. I try to work 5 days a week, and eat pretty healthy. I also laugh ALOT, read books, hang with friends even though I usually cant go anywhere besides on campus but still lol. I also call all my fam back home alot, they help keep me sane and focused..............*looks to the sky* is it May 15, 2010 10am yet????????

I used to write. I never completed most of the stuff I started but I nevertheless wrote it down on paper or typed it up in Word. I need to get back to that because I think of something but then forget it as I get distracted by other things, most especially my studies.

I treat school like a job, by sixish I am done for the most part. The rest of my evening is for me. I may go back and look at a few things if I need to clear something I am thinking about. I also study on the weekends but I have the same policy. My evenings are my free time. If I study all night and don't give myself time to relax, I would end up being up all night, but I also don't have kids and Im not working right now, so that gives me more time than some I suppose.

Spare time??? I don't think I have any! but i envy those who have children, work etc still make time for hobbies. I guess I have alot more time management to do than i currently have. I guess i just get extra sleep when i have the time...
