I love corrections! The excitement, the bars & the fact that I can talk back to the inmates. Hahah. No but it really is fun.
My least favorite is LTC. After the many jobs I had in LTC I have never worked in one I even liked a little. It's not that I hate geriatrics, I just don't like how nursing homes are run.
Favorite: ER! I thrive on the chaos. Plus I don't like having the same patients the whole shift. Two hours is plenty of time to get to know someone. :-)
Least favorite: Inpatient unit. Too much routine, not enough help, too many ADLs and PO meds. If I never have to crush another med and put it in apple sauce, I'll die a happy nurse.
Favorite: ICU...the most intensive, preferably hi-tech area I can find...intubated, sedated, paralyzed patients on multiple drips, IABP, therapeutic hypothermia, CRRT...you name it, I love it. And the OR too. Least favorite: School nurse or Mother and Baby Unit. And home health. I literally couldn't last a day in that environment.
I am still figuring it out. I loved OB....a lot til I didn't anymore. Burnout threatened and I moved on. Dialysis is pretty good for predictability and knowing your patients.....
Least favorite hands-down was LTC. Poor staffing, overwork, medicating 30-40 residents in 2 hours' time and falls which had hours and reams of paperwork. I love elderly but nursing homes are very understaffed. Such a shame.
Most favorite: Part time ER RN in outdoor oriented community, where coworkers give you fishing tips and advise on snowboarding gear. (My new gig)Least favorite: Drama filled workplace with entrenched cliques, and backstabbing, fire breathing demons, who are Satan's spawn...
I think I know that second place.
I love Oncology and should have stayed in it. I have not. Maybe I'll do hospice again since it's a little lighter on an older body. I also didn't mind corrections....but prefered Federal Max Prison to jail. Actually felt a little safer in the prison vs the jail. But that might have been a false sense of security (not sure), trusting the CO's.
Oh...and least favorite can't really be a legitimate ans. because, for me, my least fav would have more to do with the staff than the job.

I'm looking to work at a fed prison after I get my RN. But I know what you mean about the false security at the jail, those jail CO's are terrible & just don't care sometimes.
