Favorite- ICU...when you have REAL ICU patients
Least Favorite-LTC, M/B, L&D, Med-surg is aight
I initially thought I would like the ED but the chaos (while adrenaline filled) takes away from getting into the nitty gritty of plans of care and diagnosing. The shipping of patients off to ICU as fast as possible gets old when you are trying to learn. I frequently get report from ED nurses who have no idea what's going on with the patient or even how to titrate pressors correctly. It's not that they are dumb it's just a chaotic place.

My favorite- is what I do now -Radiology ( CT/MRI )
I have done it all ,and this is by far the best gig I have ever had . I just meet ,greet, and stick , repeat. After working so many nursing jobs , I have nothing to prove. Heck, I had enough time to finish my BSN between pt's online. Now , I'm doing Netflix .
Least favorite- anything on the floor . You can keep the call lights

I enjoy the medical unit I'm on now with all its craziness and unpredictability. Give me a big, gnarly abscess to pack any day or a frail, bed-bound geriatric patient, or even a psych hold.
Least favorite: I hate ortho! No knees, no hips, no way, no sir. I hate coaxing painful post-hip replacement patients out of bed and working around everyone's PT schedule to get my tasks done. Yuck. The worst. :)

Favorite unit: Critical care/stepdown of some sort- monitors, multiple lines, higher acuity.
Favorite patient: Sick, sick, sick patients OR walkie-talkies that are self sufficient/independent that we're monitoring for med loading or something.
Least favorite unit: general med surg- from my experience, a lot of noncompliant, unmotivated pts who take advantage of nurses. No I will not wait on you hand and foot when you are completely able-bodied. Hmph.
Least favorite patients: Dialysis/renal patients or ESLD patients- we get TONS of dialysis pts on our tele unit d/t the electrolyte abnormalities (that happen when they repeatedly miss their scheduled dialysis apts). Same with ESLD pts and electrolyte changes. I don't know what it is about these pts but it seems like they are all demanding, picky, wonky and non-appreciative. I know I am stereotyping and occasionally there are outliers who are real sweethearts but 9 times out of 10, I encounter rude pts in this demographic.

Favorite...hands down, L&D. I love the one-on-one care, the pacing, the autonomy...everything.Least...psych. I only ever had to do psych through my clinical rotations, but I hated it. Med/surg or OB patients with psych issues? No problem, but when the main issue is psych, I'd rather be elsewhere.
