What is the least amount you would work for as a RN?

I was offered a position in an adult day care and what is the wage? $12.00 an hour. I find this insulting. Any one else find this insulting or am I being silly? Thanks :)

That offer is actually offensive, they are taking advantage of you IF that is what they are really offering Could they have made a mistake or typo? I would tell them that you were really interested in the position but that the compensation was not in line with an RN position. I would ask them if there is an error, that cant be correct.

I know it's difficult finding a job, but can you research RN salaries in your area to compare against them? Maybe you can negotiate by saying other places pay more than they do for the same position. You should be getting paid more if you will be supervising. A lot of responsibilities as an RN, working part-time for $12/hr and no benefits...it's not worth it.

i would sweep floors to care for my family, but a $12 an hour offer is a slap in the face for an rn unless it comes with at least 300% or more shift dif.

op, i can understand why your answer is no.

yes I do consider it a slap in the face. The administrator wants me so badly, yet she says they can only pay $12.00 an hour. Minimum wage is $8.25 and that is what my daughter is making as a waitress in a fast food restaurant, plus she can get tips of up to $100.00 per night. I wouldn't even be making that and my daughter is fresh out of high school.

I would be responsible for 30+ individuals health and well being, learn the companies computerized charting system and also help toilet and shower some residents. I don't mind doing things like that, but at $12.00 an hour? No thanks.

Thanks for the reply :)

Very insulting. A relative suggested I come to their state and work for $11 or $12 an hour (I won't name the state) and my response to them was that I did not get a nursing license to work for those wages. In my state, a CNA can find a job for $18 to $20 an hour on occasion. That puts it into perspective.

Yes. This was a typo. They meant $32 an hour, more in line of RN wages.

I have checked the minimum salary for RN's in this area and it's about $21.00 an hour. That is also the starting wages in LTC which around here usually are the lowest paying employers.

No, it's not worth it especially when I have to drive 30 miles there and back, working only 2 days a week and every Saturday.

Also I found out that one of their nurses decided not to work as a nurse any longer and he is now a program assistant?? That is very odd. Makes me wonder exactly why he decided to step down from the position.

no, no typo. She stated it 2 times. $12.00 an hour. The program assistants who are like certified nursing assistants get paid $8.25 and they pass food trays, play games with the clients, toilet, shower, etc. The nurse is expected to help with the food trays, pass the medications, toilet, showers, trash, etc. I was told by the administrator that she is making some very drastic changes because this particular site is not up to standards. Not up to standards as far as the facility and pay!

I also have applied for another job, and I will need some replies if you all don't mind. I will post it under the addictions forum.

Thanks!

It would depend on what else came with the job: for $12 an hour, there better be some damn good perks and benefits...or be entirely under the table, but that's a whole other debate.

The nice thing about this world is that no one is forcing you to take any job that you don't want to take. If you are insulted or otherwise not happy with $12 an hour, then you were right in turning down the offer.

However, do remember that this is a buyer's market: with so many nurses looking for work, employers aren't offering up the big bucks they were giving nurses only a few years ago. This is in no way saying "you should have grabbed the $12," but it is something to keep in mind as you job hunt. Good luck.

Good choice, keep on looking, you will find something soon! Good luck to you

I don't blame you for turning it down. That seems like a lot of work and responsibility for $12 an hour. Plus, losing all of your Saturdays, too! :(

Yikes I made $12 per hour back in 1998 as a CNA! I realize the cost of living is a major factor in each area but I wouldn't take less than $30/hr in the region I live in now.

The fact that the administrator sounds desperate and the nurse demoted himself to program assistant are red flags. I wouldn't mind working $12/hr doing something else, but not as a nurse due to the responsibilities and all the legalities it entails. You have to also think about the support system when it comes to audit time and emergencies. I wonder if there was a code, the nurse/program assistant will be able to help you since he also has a license even though it's not part of his "job title".
