What kind of Nursing school drama in your school?

Published

Nursing school drama. Sometimes its like highschool all over again. Different cliques, people talking behind your back, students competing against each other for the best grade, students arguing over the dumbest things. Why do some of us allow ourselves to get wrapped up in this ridiculous drama? Sometimes I feel like Im worrying about dumb nursing school drama then I am studying. What kind of drama is there at your school and how do you not let yourself get wrapped up in it?

that's what I call drama

No drama here. At least none that I noticed, since I don't hang out with trouble makers. There were some girls who tried to stir up trouble, but quickly realized that they didn't have an audience. After that, nope, no drama.

Funny thread. Most of the girls who were into drama and gossip failed out in the beginning. Now it is just us boring book nerds.

Drama? I dunno.

Seriously. I do my own thing and let others do theirs.

I'm there to learn and get my degree. Nothing else.

This. As callous as it sounds, you are not there to make friends. Just focus on getting yourself through the program in one piece.

Thank you. I certainly don't mean to sound callous, I avoid drama and everything that goes with

it like the plague. It saps too much energy....

I agree, but at the same time, It is humourous to see some of the stupid things people do for a good laugh.

I am starting second semester, and so far there hasnt been too much drama. I was sitting next to a person who was all about "who did what etc" and I moved to a different seat. I felt this person wasn't even spouting real drama it was more of what she "thought" which is more than likely how rumors get started. Anyway, other than that so far so good. Most of us get together for study groups, lunch at each other's homes, karoke nights, and I have made some really awsome friends which I think will last long after nursing school is done.

My problem is that once I start school at the end of the month, I can't decide if I want to try and make friends with people or just keep to myself. I have a hard time making friends. I am quiet, keep to myself, and I am one of those people that just has that annoyed look on their face 24/7 lol. I'm not mean, I just look that way I guess. Anyways... I think my problem is the people I do want to be friends with are quiet themselves. I tend to somehow talk to the people who are still drunk from the night before in class. Not what I need. I am all for fun but I can't go out during the week during school. Drinking for weekends only. Sorry, I am just rambling now haha. I just can't decide whether or not to keep to myself or make some new NS friends when I start.

The "drama" in my program is grades....the constant how'd you do? after every single exam! "fine" is not good enough. These people want exact numbers! There are some cliques, but I think that's to be expected. I think there is also a simmering "debate" about which area of nursing is the "hardest"

sigh...

I work in MICU, I love it. I sing at work. ROck and Roll. I dont think it is hard at all. If you love what you do, then it really isnt hard in my opinion. I am lucky that I get to do something that I love. I would say the hardest area of nursing is working in something that you hate doing.

Drama, I hate the drama, but we sometimes bring our lives into our work, work also creates drama. Over the holiday, our census was low. Some nurses were calling in and taking annual leave instead of working. One nurse was upset that the day shift nurse did not call her to tell her that the census was low that day, instead another RN called and asked to be off that day. Well fair is fair... So she showed up at work all ****** off. I think not only is that illegal to do, but immoral. I dont think the charge nurse should call a person up and tell them that the census is low and to have that person call in to the hospital supervisor to request annual leave.

Which made me wonder about some issues of preferential treatment.
