  1. Wow. Going back to school to get your BSN seems like a lot more time, effort, and money just to get your foot in the door. I can't believe they would tell you that. Seems like too many hoops to jump through just to work for them, and it frustrates me that they would demand that from you. I am a new nurse, no job, and back in my old career. I am so over this job hunt I am just wanting to throw it away and find something else to do. What a waste.
  2. Just got done with an interview. My one and only interview. Crossing my fingers, though I don't think I did that well. Froze on a question!!! Well, I'm only human. Trying to determine if a follow-up letter is warranted or not. Any input would be appreciated.
  3. People can find out a lot if they obtain your ip address. If a stranger on the internet has access to your email address he can use it to locate your ip address and find out your name, school, and where you live.
  4. Continuous infusion, I think, is total volume in mL divided by total time to be infused in hours. For example, order: 1000mL NS to be infused over 24 hours = 41.6 = you would set the infusion pump at 42mL/hour Hope this was helpful.
  5. At my school, we have to wear business attire to class. I'm talking slacks and everything. Of course, being a female, this means buying lots of new clothes to meet the criteria. It also means doing myself up (hair and makeup) every morning before lecture. The days of wearing pajamas to school are long gone. Clinicals are a totally different thing. We have our butt ugly uniforms, probably designed by nuns who thought, "how about a tunic top and tapered leg pants." Besides looking literally like a clown at clinicals, by the end of a hard 12 hour day of cleaning butts and such, I look like a haggard mess. Any makeup application during clinicals would be putting lipstick on a pig.
  6. Funny thread. Most of the girls who were into drama and gossip failed out in the beginning. Now it is just us boring book nerds.
  7. No offense, but blow it out your wahzoo.
  8. I dislike school and waking up at 4:30 in the morning to go to clinicals and not sleeping or having a life. I cry after almost every clinical rotation. Because I'm exhausted, I smell like feces, and I'm aggravated. Sound remotely familiar? Stay in school. It is not about dreams of a great career and, at this time, it is not about helping people and being a beacon of light. That is an added bonus. The truth of the matter is, economic times are tough and its only going to get worse. With upwards of 2 million Americans out of jobs at the moment, you need to cling to this opportunity. Nursing will fare relatively well in the coming economic depression. And having a job will be far better than starving or losing your home. If I had my way, nursing would be the last thing I would want to do. I have a bachelors in accounting and nursing is far more promising as far as pay, hours, and benefits. It is a dirty job and a hard job. You are in the working class. The smartest thing for you to do is find the career that gives you the most money for the least amount of time...and you have found it. Stick through it. You have the support of other nurses, this forum, and hopefully, your family.
  9. It seems that you are suffering from anxiety. It is good that you are expressing yourself because that will help you calm down. It is important that you talk to someone. Maybe a close friend or relative you trust. You seem like a bright person and the material is not beyond your reach. The anxiety seems to be what got in the way. In preparation for next year, you should study independently at a relaxed pace. Get yourself more familiar with the material, so next time around you will be more comfortable with it. Look into relaxation techniques, too. Find what has worked for you in the past. Next year you will be armed with knowledge and strategies to keep the anxiety down and keep your focus. I commend you for your dedication in wanting to return next year. Good luck to you.
  10. At first I was wary of going to the psych floor for clinicals. I thought I was putting myself in a dangerous situation and felt like my school was punishing me. Boy was I wrong! I had a delightful time. I am completely enamored with all the patients. I know all their names and I feel so much compassion towards them. The rotation is almost over and I am actually sad about it. The sad part is that I don't think I would be able to actually work there. I am a small female, kind of cute. People have warned of the perverts that go through the psych unit and that I wouldn't be suited for it. Should I take this to heart and find another specialty?
  11. Bored? Why don't you take up knitting? There's no "crappy responsibility" in that.
  12. Does anyone know what book we will use for Pharm? Thanks.
  13. I'm not your mother. I'm not going to hold your hand through the whole course. No I don't want to study with you just because you sat down at this table. You don't know anything. And I don't want to hear about your personal saga. Do I know you?
  14. Thanks! The pharm notes are gonna be super helpful. Can't believe the program starts so soon! :uhoh21:
