I am new to all this and I have seen a lot of posts about med errors. I know it happens alot, but what kind of med error would cause a facility to present it to the board? I was once told if you make an error and someone gets hurt as a result your license will be under review. Thats obvious, but what else?
You can be turned into the BON for any med error, but most facilities will not do so unless a pt was seriously harmed, or it was blatant negligence, or narcs were diverted. Most errors will be handled internally with education.
Right!
What she said.
And don't EVER mistake Tylenol P.M. for the garden variety Tylenol. The BON will snatch your license away quicker than you can say, "Damn, I should have used Bayer!"
You were warned...

Aw, Tazzi. I just love it when you use the term, "narcs were diverted". Makes feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
*sigh*

Yea, this one kind of bugs me. They must have had confirmation from the doc and what not because many diabetic ulcers don't heal and many limbs are amputated as a result.
p.s. I once did a rotation at a LTC facility and the medication aide was so doped up looking that she could barely stand up. I asked her if she was tired, just in passing thinking maybe she'd been there all night, and she said that she just got to work an hour ago. If I wasn't so green at the time I would have mentioned it to someone, but I'm sure she was caught. She had to have been, she could barely open her eyes. That's scary.
