I am new to all this and I have seen a lot of posts about med errors. I know it happens alot, but what kind of med error would cause a facility to present it to the board? I was once told if you make an error and someone gets hurt as a result your license will be under review. Thats obvious, but what else?
It is only a friendly reminder....A lot of things that can go without saying it.
How about stealing the control substances by some nurses who are addicted to illegal substances.
Not only the narcotics, I have seen in a nursing home that nurse(s) was/were stealing the diabetic drugs...as a result of that, all the diabetic drugs, just like the control substances, have to be counted. What a shame!!!!

Stealing the drugs is one thing, but having your co-workers to count the non-narcotic drugs is so unbearable. It is added more work to the 40 patients who are under your care. If you have 7 patients who are taking the diabetic medicine, it will take 7 to 12 minutes to count; and before you are going home it is another 7 to 12 minutes. Don't forget...you still have to count the narcotic drugs. Too much!!!

The more time you have to spend on something else...the less time you have for the patients. As a nurse, sometimes I don't even have a lunch break. If no one was doing the stealing, then I could have spent that 14 to 24 minutes on my lunch break.
Whoa, Tazzi! You took the words right out of my mouth!(That's eerie....) :monkeydance:
Taz - Hey! you were right! And I am sure that lack of orientation does not make it "ok" to lie about something like that. That kind of nurse, it makes you wonder what else they have lied about, on their own unit or another unit "because I didn't know", or "no orientation!" That's scary!!!

Fourteen minutes to 24 minutes a day, if you work 5 days in that nursing home, then I am talking about 1 to 2 hours a week....FOR THAT!!!!!!
Anyone who wants to try how much time you have to spend on that in one year.
