I have been going through all these posts to find what items are the best things to have for nursing school. The posts are all scattered so I thought I would start a post that will contain all the info for the new incoming students.
I would like to know what I should spend my money on when it comes to study guides, NCLEX review books, NET review books, best nursing shoes (without a logo), stethescope, misc nursing items you have to have, etc. Any new students/senior students/graduate nurses have any info they can share? What were the items you couldn't live without???
Thanks for your input!
You sound like you are speaking from experience.
Yes ma'am I am. Oh, and I'd recommend getting clogs with BACKS on them. They take a little getting used to, the way the backs move on your feet, but it's better than falling out of your GD shoes when you have to run down the hall. SO EXCITED that my preceptorship site isn't making me wear the white shoes! I didn't want to buy another white pair, that seemed wasteful, but I hate those shoes so much right now...
Shaneomac, (sorry if I got the spelling wrong)
We all have that going on, or we could not have made it this far!
I think we (or at least I), was looking for more concrete things. I have found the Best suggestions on this website ever, and have recommended it to my fellow nursing students. Even 8 weeks away from graduation, I will take any suggestions anyone has!
PS
Whowever suggested the Merrils, Bless YOU~ My feet are happier than they have ever been. My only problem is that my last clinical rotation is psych, and you wear professional street clothes, not white shoes. sigh.
Have to go find a black pair, now.
I comfortable pair of shoes. I have knee/hip problems and flat feet and have to wear custom orthotics that tend to be uncomfortable. I have a really hard time finding any comfortable shoes period but found a pair of New Balance which is working well for me.
Also, a decent stethoscope. I am somewhat hard of hearing and couldn't hear with the less expensive stethoscope. I bought a Littman Master Classic II for only around $100 with my name engraved on it and can hear really clearly. Certainly not the cheapest stethoscope but not the most expensive stethoscope either.
My organizer is my nursing school 'bible'. It's not in it, it doesn't exist....lol. Lots of black pens, highlighters and mechanical pencils, those little sticky flags to mark chapters to read (I usually have 15 a week or more)..... man the list can go on and on.... good luck!
i don't know if your professor/clinical instructor will let you turn in typed meds or not on your pt but from first semester on i set up blank med sheets in the proper format and saved every med i ever had to do, now in 4th semester i have saved a ton of work and don't have quite so many lost hours of sleep trying to get it all done on time. now all i have to do is make the info pt specific on the med sheets.

:yeahthat:
i do this not only with my drug cards, but with my careplans. i made a blank template on the computer my first semester and now all i do is type my careplan right into the template. this ensures that my professors can actually read my work (unlike when i write it out).

that is the best thing you can do. during your fourth semester (or last), you will have such a large library of meds, that all you will have to do is look it up in your own notes. :yeah:
