What am I doing wrong? Or am I missing something?

Hi all,

I know there are tons of threads out there regarding new grads, no jobs, etc. In my case, I'm trying to find out if I'm missing something big (or small!) that could make a difference in getting a job. In short, is there anything else possible that I could be doing that could get me hired? I'm not picky (haha drives me nuts to hear classmates saying "I'll only do this, or no nights for me"). Here is my resume in brief:

-BSN grad, 3.88 gpa

-Current CNA at children's hospital with experience in trache care, GT care, basically medically complex kids

-Former unit secretary

-Volunteer with local public health dept

-Plenty of clinical and supervisor references

Specializes in Home Care.

There are lots of threads on this subject with lots of suggestions.

Look into obtaining certifications if you dont have them. ACLS/PALS, tele, IV therapy, etc

Specializes in PICU, Sedation/Radiology, PACU.

What's your resume look like? The format, style, and information included on your resume are the first things that employers will see. If it's professional, well layed out, and highlights the right things- it will help you stand out. If it's plain, unoriginal, and not easy to find information, you'll get tossed out. Have a professional or a nursing instructor go over your resume and offer suggestions.

Specializes in Emergency; med-surg; mat-child.

Our hospitals don't accept paper resumes, so everything is formatted the same. It kinda burns my buns that I spent so much time creating a really nice one for companies that don't even want to see it. I do my best to make it look good online when I submit them but I have no idea what they look like by the time they hit a recruiter's desk.

I agree. Especially for the hospitals that make the size requirements ridiculously small so that you can't upload your resume, or the ones that require you to paste your resume, so you end up having to reformat it AGAIN :(
