What I Love About Nursing Is....
Serving as advocate for those who are ill, infirm, and without representation.
The opportunity to educate individuals who are considering nursing as a career.
The opportunity to educate other non-healthcare individuals about the professional career of nursing.
The varied nursing specialties available thoughout ones career and continued chance for advancement.
The chance to share my knowledge and experience with other nurses who may be in a situation where they are having issues/concerns and need advice.
The camaraderie, the support offered by my nursing colleagues, and....

Well, this is a nursing student speaking, so:
The ability to learn so much from the nurses that I am supervised by at clinicals and still know that there is far more to learn
The ability to heal or comfort a person
The true, heartfelt compassion that I get to express without shame while I am in clinicals
The constant, everchanging Medical world that will forever keep my brain a hoppin'
Being surrounded by the awesome, seasoned nurses that make me feel secure and (as I'm sure they're biting their lips and wringing their hands, but would never let me see) allow me to practice skills while under their supervision so that I too can learn and one day work beside them
The thankful look, hug or words from a patient and/or their family
There is so much to love and I know I am just at the tip of the iceburg - I feel so lucky to be working towards this profession!

I love this thread!!! It's such a refreshing change to focus on all the wonderful, positive aspects to this profession! I won't officially be a nurse for a few years, but everyday, I get more and more excited!

The hugs. I get and give lots of them.
Nursing is not a static career. It grows and changes with you.
The autonomy that comes with working in the field.
My coworkers. They are an awesome caring bunch of professionals.
My patients. They are treasure troves of history and knowledge. When they make me part of their families, it's such an honor.

I'm not a nurse yet but should be by the middle of May. The draw to nursing for me is the flexibility and opportunity to choose where I want to live and work. Three twelves and your done, not to mention that work stays and work and doesn't follow you home at night.

I love the fast pace, the unpredictability of the ward, nothing is the same from day to day.
I love learning everyday, I love bringng comfort and reassurance to someone who is dying or ill.
I love being the one to advocate on their behalf, to ensure they receive the best possible care.
I love teaching new students, and helping them learn to be the best nurses they can be.
