This week, I have learned...
1. I've decided to keep a tally of most critical labs in one admission, starting today (not including renal failure patients): hgb, glucose, potassium, chloride, PT and INR
2. Farawyn's what I learned thread was way cooler than mine are.
Adding an 80s song makes any thread way cooler.
3. Don't trust a 0600 portable chest X-ray to tell you if pulling a chest tube at 1600 is a good idea. It really sucks to tell someone they have a pneumo still.
4. If someone has q4h benzos and opiates, bring both when they ask for one because they'll just ask for the other after you've already run to the med room twice for them.
5. When someone's paracentesis site is still actively dripping rather steadily, it makes me want to squeeze that sucker and see how far I can shoot the fluid out.
6. This week, it actually was sarcoidosis.
7. I know what sarcoidosis is now.
Sarcoidosis sucks.
8. Doctors really need to stop saying, "we're going to go ahead and discharge you," without adding, "this afternoon", especially when they know full well they won't be putting in discharges anytime soon.
9. I think I've realized that the best docs we have actually enjoy my unit the best because they chart there.
My list is boring this week.
What have you learned?
Yeah I'm not sure what happened there...perhaps my inner snark was showing too much? But I think we need a place to vent about some of the silliness and ridiculous stuff we encounter here....
Mods are working overtime. They just deleted a dozen posts from the Texas conditional license thread (including a very insightful one from me that included the words "uuuuuummmm" and "uh"). It's like spring cleaning on AN... but, you know, in late summer.

Anyone else think they're going overboard with the moderating lately?
Every thread I've gone to this morning has been... Interrupted by a disagreement that won't end.
Then stop reading good threads!!!!
lol I kid, I kid.
In other news, on the surface it looks like the deers thread was closed because TPTB are just as grammar obsessed as we are. :)
Anyone object to next week's thread starting today? The argument spilling into this one is a total buzz kill.

Be honest - you just don't want Farawyn to beat you to it and have a better thread than you again.

Oh I know. It really brought down the mood & I really didn't want the thread to get closed.
I know they closed it, I don't know why either. There was nothing wrong with it.No don't leave! I love your posts & I (we) would miss you. I know it's getting weird but don't leaaaave! I have so much to learn from youuuuu! Teach me teach me teach meeeee!
Lol I'm not going anywhere, I've just decided to be even more selective in responding to posts.
Seriously, I wouldn't let family members talk to me the way some of these perfect strangers have. So, new rules for me:
1. If they sound like they slid over here from Facebook (many thanks to whoever thought of that one, by the way), stay away from the reply button.
2. If they are incoherent, or seem delusional and/or psychotic, don't go any farther; back out of the way slowly, close the thread and thank Jebus I didn't get sucked into the black hole of their wackiness.
3. If a reply to a seemingly normal OP is met with bared fangs and vitriol...see #2.
4. Any threads with the heading "NCLEX challenge", "I failed NCLEX 7 times", "Instructor hates me", "Vet Techs...", "SO of a Nursing student", will simply be scrolled past. Quickly. With my eyes closed lol.

This is a good list actually, and may want to be considered as being added to TOS.

I'm glad you're not leaving! I have learned so much from you & several others while I've been here on AN & I still have tons to learn. :)
It's like they opened the flood gates to crazy! All of a sudden these crazy posters & topics have been coming, not good. But I agree, I even had to adjust my posting habits. People can get ugly when they post online.

Probably a good idea, ixchel. Sorry the weirdness stalked me and showed up here.
All day I've been looking over my shoulder-I keep expecting her to be behind me, wearing a goalie mask and wielding an ax! 😱😱😱
