What thing do you think is really cool that every one else thinks is really gross?

I love it when we lance a big sebaceous cyst. I think it is so cool when all of that gunk comes out. Now, I don't want to touch it, I just like to watch. Totally gross huh.

I used to work in a place with teens who would stick ANYTHING they could in their arms... glass, plastic, pieces of CDs, pencil shards... anything. Also in their ears. While I didn't like that they were doing that, there was a weird thrill to grasping the tip of some glass with some tweezers and pulling- and out comes a 4-inch piece. There was also a lot of nausea. :)

In a trauma, they cracked his chest, no blood because it was all in his belly. His lung fluttered out the hole every time he was bagged. Very weird, but strangely fascinating to watch.:uhoh21:

Drinking Mountain Dew or tea out of a graduate container, LOL! :chuckle

Oh, and I'm also a confessed zit-popper extrordinaire. My favorites are big ol' blackheads, though. I go NUTS when I see one on my hubby's back. I HAVE to pop it. Then I love to watch it come out like a little snake.

MAN, that's gross!

Worse: eating chocolate pudding out of a bedpan (albeit one that has never been used), total gross out. Yup popping zits can be fun and gross. I like squeezing blackheads.

In the CCU that I work in we had a patient with a REALLY BAD maggot infestation of the respiratory and GI tracts. Maggots while suctioning the vent patient, maggots while doing peri care, maggots crawling out of his eyes!!!! I was nauseous for a week, and didn't find it cool at all, just gross! The worst part was that his family kept him a full code for days, which was cruel, and the doctors said there was nothing they could do about it, which was cruel! NOT COOL, JUST CRUEL!

God as my Witness you can! Think pinworms. . .no one is sure how he got them, the family tried to blame the hospital staff. . .it was summer. . .there may have been an open window. . .but we pointed out that we did not have the patient long enough for a hatching cycle to occur. If I remember correctly, the patient had a hx of IDDM, ETOH abuse, liver problems, gi bleeding, and renal problems.

When the nurse caring for the patient told the Dr. what she had found crawling off of the patients face, I don't think he believed her, she started catching them in sterile cups. . .eeeewwwuuhh!

Later the CRT said, " Come here for a minute", and pointed them out in the vent tubing. As we turned the patient for pericare after a loose stool, the nurse pointed them out.

Good Lord, we all had the creepy crawlies! The primary nurse showed the family the cup-o-maggots and they finally decided to do a terminal extubation, may he rest in peace.

I've seen them in decubes too, but nothing grossed me out like this case did.

I think draining infected areas are cool. I love to follow our infectious disease doctor around when he does procedures. He knows it too. He'll say "hey this one's for you, come on". I think if I could do my life over again I would have been a dermatologist. Good hours, boils, and neat stuff to drain!

Call me weird, I like that gross stuff too. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one.
