What grosses you out?

Published

We all know it takes a strong constitution to handle the "messes" that CNAs deal with. Very little actually grosses me out, poop included. However, it's dealing with mouthcare and dentures that gives me the heebies and makes me want to gag at times. What grosses you out while going about your CNA day?

This doesn't gross me out, per se, but I just can't STAND THE SOUND of tooth grinding!!!

Definately oral care. The spitting into the emesis basin with food particles kills me. I can think about it and gag. Fingernail care is bad, too. I'll take anything else.

Green frothy sputum. I have seen (and smelled) just about every other substance that can come from the human body. That stuff makes me gag every time.

Goofy, I know, but the sound of someone throwing up. I can clean it all day, after the fact. Hearing it gives me the heebie jeebies. Was tramuatized as a child. I had to hear my grandfather throw up several times a day, for years. He had bleeding ulcers, had most of his stomach removed. So everytime he ate, he threw up.

Since I'm only on day 3 of orientation I haven't had the chance to be grossed out yet-lol Except...the CNA I was shadowing the other day was using some wipes to clean some BM off a female resident. The CNA did this without gloves, then when we left the room she went straight to her bag and took out and ate a Snickers bar without washing her hands....

OMG!!! NO.......that is disgusting..:barf01:

I agree with you OP on the mouth care and dentures!!!!

Things that come out of the mouth... especially yellow slimy things.

I hated dentures when I started, but they do not bother me now.

I gaged today getting yellow slimy stuff out of a residents mouth... YUK

Mouth care on tube fed patients-the crack of the dry lips and the protrusion of what lies within-ok-I'm no wimp-I can do any other bodily fluid without flinching, though I do have this thing about earwax. So I'm no wimp lol!

Ohhh yeah. We have a whole wing of tube fed kids, and if their aides aren't diligent about their oral care, their mouths get downright nasty. It looks so painful, too :(.
