  1. I feel the same way that you do about nursing homes. Everyone says there are good ones out there. I have worked at many and haven't found one yet. These poor folks are treated like cattle and it horrible. I am currently working at a place that doesn't take things seriously until state or an injury happens.
  2. Is there anyway you might be able to start dinner earlier?
  3. I agree with you OP on the mouth care and dentures!!!!
  4. Yea I am also sick of having to show up at least ten minutes early for my shift and not getting paid for it. Then I get to stay after work and chart if I didn't have time during my shift without pay. I figured it out that my job is getting about 2 hours a week volunteer time from me.
  5. I am a cna and work in a facility. Anyway, my some of my coworkers do not take a full 30 minute lunch break which is required by my states law. I do take my 30 minute break because it is the only break that I get throughout the day and I don't get paid for it. Personally, I think that its sad that they don't take their lunch break because we all need a little time to ourselves during the day imo. Its bad enough that I have to stay after my shift ends to chart and not get paid for it.
  6. I agree. By the way kudo's op for looking this up. I have worked for many companies who don't go by the book.
  7. Well, I am not a nurse but have about 5 years of care giving experience. Anyway, make sure to be a team player and help when you are able. Be ready to build up a strong skin because many facilities will eat up the newbies.
  8. I am not even a nurse and agree with you pp.
  9. Sounds like you may want to talk to your DNS about what going on.
  10. Maybe play some soft music or do whatever will make the patient the most comfortable. They might like it if you read to them or just hold there hand and be there for them. When the family comes in to visit I tend to let them be unless asked to do something.
  11. I don't know if this is still allowed but I found shaving cream to take the odor away pretty well on colostomies.
  12. I had my NAR before I took my CNA course and passed my test the first time. I think that you will be fine as long as you are willing to keep an open mind about new ways of doing things lol. I learned so much during my CNA training and I wish that they would make all care givers take the class.
  13. I worked in a nursing home with a resident like this and somehow they got it care planned(I think) that she would only get care at certain times during the day. It really worked well for everyone.
  14. I am 5 foot 2 and am a CNA. I am a lot heavier then you but am able to do the job. I also have a friend you was a care giver and she was thin and petite and she told me she had problems with the obese residents.
  15. Yea my husband feels the same way lol!!!
