What has been your fav prereq??

Published

Just curious what has been your favorite prereq and why?

Mine was A&P...why? It didn't bother me studying for hours on end b/c the human body absolutely fascinates me!!! I loved lab too. I happened to have a professor that had been a nurse for years, so she applied a ton towards nursing.

Tips for those who haven't taken it yet...try to not take a tough load the same semester you take these classes. Pay full attention in class, and DON'T CRAM for the tests....study a bit each day and spread it out.

I just started school so far my favorite has been Psychology 101, but i cant wait until summe ro ttake A&P i love science especially anatomy

A&P 1!

I didn't care for the campus where I took A&P 2, or I probably would have enjoyed the class more. It was a disorganized mess.

A&P 1, though....loved the instructor, loved the classmates I sat & studied with, loved learning the bones, muscles, nerves, etc....loved it.

(Guess now I need to RESTUDY it....it's been a year now.) :uhoh3: (Does that bother anyone else?)

i loved my nutrition class - i had an awesome professor who made already interesting material even more interesting, and though she didn't necessarily have to, she taught a lot of nursing-related nutrition for us and told us lots of stories from the hospital where she works as a clinical rd.

actually, i think the only prereq i didn't like was the one i thought i'd like the most: developmental psychology. it wasn't the material - the professor dumbed it down so much since it was an all-day saturday class and she didn't want to be there, so she let everyone sleep through class and still gave all a's, pretty much. i was so bored i thought i was going to crawl right out of my skin. i made some great friends in that class, though (we had lots of time to socialize and get to know each other!).

My favorite class so far has been micro (I am taking it right now). This has also been the hardest class for me, but I think that's why I like it so well - I love a challenge and I have to be insanely busy or I am not happy - LOL! We have sooooo much to do in it including weekly quizzes/assignments and exams every 2-3 weeks as well as lab quizzes and lab reports/assignments. Even with all that, it is a blast and I know I am retaining a lot of it - WooHoo!!!

I also really enjoyed A&P I and am enjoying A&P II despite having not that great a teacher.

I did NOT like Human Growth and Development - it was a very easy class and I felt like I didn't gain any information out of it. It was a 'cake' A, but it was so boring. :(

I am glad to hear that somebody liked Chemistry - one of these days I will have to take it and I am scared to death of it!

My English classes :lol2:

I too, loved English. I think it was partially having a great teacher and partially that he let us write mainly about whatever we wanted (provided he approved) so I used this as an opportunity to explore areas of healthcare that interest me. It was an enjoyable class in which I received an "A." I'm actually considering taking Public Speaking thanks to my success in English. I think if I wasn't going into nursing I'd be a journalist. :)

As for the rest of my pre-req's:

A&P 1-- loved lab, lecture was ok

A&P 2-- it was ok

Sociology-- easy class, some interesting stuff

Growth and Development, Adult---fairly easy

Nutrition-- I really enjoyed this one, for some reason, most fellow nursing majors found my instructor hard.

Growth and Development, Child-- just started it, doesn't seem like it'll be too hard

Psychology--also just started, right now a review of A&P 1

Microbiology--taking right now, lecture's good, lab is a bit tougher

I really loved all the psych classes (HUman Development, Intro to Psych, etc), but I also really love A&P. The human body is truly fascinating.

I didn't like HG&D either. The class was sooooo easy :uhoh3: . I didn't feel like a deserved an A since I didn't do much work (I did what the teacher gave us though). I felt like it was a waste of money and time. Most of the people in my class were happy to get an easy A though.

My favorite classes so far have been A&P I and II. I don't know if I loved the teachers, but I loved learning the material. I am taking either Micro or Chem in the fall and I hope I love them too.

I agree with you - a lot of people were happy for the easy 'A', but I wanted to learn something for the $$$ I spent. Oh well - at least it looks good on our record. :) You sound a lot like me - I am scared of Chem, but I adored Micro - you will probably love it too!

Best of luck to you!

child psych--- not big on science stuff- i do it cuz i want to but i dont' love it

Anatomy lab with cadavers! Coolest class ever!! Except the smell... I showered every time I got home to try and get the smell off me.

I also loved Pharmacology (prereq for Accelerated BSN).

I take classes at the Ivy Tech in Columbus and some of their sister sites, such as Seymour and Nashville. I would have to say my favorite is probably my micro class in Nashville. I have a really good instructor, seems pretty easy going. My easiest class was by far Life Span Development. My hardest was Chemistry (though I really like it), because I took it at IU Southeast and had professor Otu from Nigeria, he was a bit hard to understand.

Sociology and psychology were my favorites so far. Sociology was a little too easy, but I had an amazing professor who made it fun. I love, love, love A&P I lecture, but the lab is always disorganized...:o Melanie
