Good Evening,
I am new here.I am an LPN and interested in taking the next step to become an RN. I am thinking about to enroll in the ADN program through Excelsior College.I talked to College Network about it today. But I am still kind of skeptical about the program. Therefore, I like to hear you guys experience and maybe advices. How long did it take you guys to finish the program? Thanks for your help.

Mandy, you can actually take the exams in any order -- they don't actually have "pre-requisites." For example, I save Microbiology and two CLEPs (Introductory Sociology, then Human Growth and Development [took the place of Lifespan Developmental Psych, and much cheaper!]) for the time in which I was waiting for my Clinical Performance in Nursing Exam (CPNE) date, after I'd done all my nursing exams. The sooner you knock out those nursing exams, the sooner you can start chipping away at the CPNE waiting time -- there are lots of students and a limited number of test sites, so depending on where you go for your CPNE, you might have a bit of a wait.
EC was a great program for me. :) Good luck!!
I am graduating from EC next month. I got 95% of my study material for FREE at http://www.flashcardexchange.com . Did not buy any notes and any books that I purchased before I enrolled in EC were purchased from the thrift store and goodwill. This is a wonderful program and there are many, many online support groups of students who are eager to help you out and guide you in the right direction. Go to the EC website and explore and find out answers to all your questions. Don't sign up with any of the third party publishing companies like the one you mentioned.
Hi I am an LPN considering getting my RN through excelsior college. Can anyone who is an excelsior grad please let me know your experiences and whether or not this route is suggested. Thanks so much
As stated before, you can find plenty of descriptions of experiences simply by reading in the distance learning forum.
I have read other reviews that state that EC will try to purposely fail you during your clinical test. I am super interested in the program...but it is a lot of money. I just need to make sure it is worth the expense.
According to their website, the CPNE fail rate is 39%. That means that over half of the students who take it do pass. Think about it this way, the clinical instructors are pretty much the last thing between you and the NCLEX-RN. Even if it's a basic error like identifying a patient, they need to ding you for it, because they need to make sure that you will be a competent RN when they pass you!
Beachie is totally right. I personally would prefer my RN remember to check my id before doing things. It is a great program that others hate, but every program has its issues. I am currently in the program and I'm grateful for it. I wouldn't be an RN this year if it weren't for Excelsior.

Thank you guys for your answers to my question. I guess I will get in contact with EC on Friday. I think I need to take 3 more classes before I can start with the nursing courses. All your experiences sound very positive which is very encouraging to me.I know the EC is accepted in MS.
Thanks again. I bet I will ask more questions soon or later.
Great forum.
