What is expected from ATI TEAS Test?

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am very new to the forum, and a have just been admitted to the R.N program this Fall 2010. I just received a letter from my college today saying that I must take an ATI TEAS test with a passing score of 67 in order to proceed with the R.N program at my college. I am from San Francisco CA and I am wondering if anyone took this test and what should be expected from it. I was also wondering if anyone has websites or book titles that may help in preparing for this test??? I am freaking out since the test is in two weeks :uhoh3:

Thanks in advance for any feedback! ;)

Wow- we all seem to get a little crazy advice from those we should trust at our schools. I have received and heard of other people getting some very strange unhelpful advice. A lot of the rumors are from people who have asked the wrong questions or have started on a different path other than the nursing program or just plain don't bother to read all the details of the program on the school website. (I have specifically noticed that with the younger students.) The school might be new to the ATI program online usage and yes you have an ID which we were required to secure before the day of the test as it would take too much time on the same day. It is such a specific way of testing that I would definitely want to practice before the test. (I had a 0% in science and brought it up to 70% by studying what was I scored low on.) Our questions were very broad based- including geology, which needed some major refreshing. I used the online practice quizzes, you only get to do it twice for $30, just to see how bad or good my scores would be. I was horrified when I tested so bad in science. My math needed a little refreshing but was mostly basic stuff like long form division with big big numbers. (no calculators) The english I don't believe can be studied- you just have a certain capability for what they are asking or you don't. The quizzes were harder than the actual test- so that was good.

Also- ATI has a variety of tests so don't ask ATI they don't know what your school is testing for specifically. The school makes the criteria for the test. Our school used a general health field test- but it had nothing to do with nursing, just broad base knowledge which can be altered by studying the right stuff. I studied for about a month on the web practicing like crazy but not until I got the book and did the quizzes from ATI did it truly effect my test scores- just a total waste of time playing math games etcetera- trying to guess what's on the test.

I just called my school bookstore and they don't have the ATI study guide. In the school's online library they only have McGraw-Hill's book. I am worried about the science part, what do you suggest for that? I am doing okay with this book, but I just got to the chemistry stuff and kinda freaking out now; I haven't had any chemistry at all and I sure don't remember any of this from high school 20 years ago, LOL, like the way the periodic table is laid out and several other things, so I'm busy with this so far, but I haven't run into any rock formation or volcano kind of stuff (I haven't gone through all the science yet), so I was wondering if I should supplement the McGraw-Hill. Did you use that at all beforehand and/or do you think the ATI study guide is how one should study only?

After talking to three advisors and the director over the last year, they just now have told me to brush up on A&P and math for this TEAS. I have been told by three of the four that it doesn't matter what we score this first time and that it's just baseline, so I hope that is the case, but I'd rather be prepared either way, don't want to have to take it twice, and I'd rather study over summer while I'm only taking one class, waiting for orientation, etc. I wish I could just get a straight answer. It is in none of the paperwork, the TEAS, so I do believe this first is baseline, but still . . . what to study for the funky science questions?

You won't find an ATI Study Guide in your student bookstore. I tried to find it used at Amazon etc. but no luck. Truly when I took the test and passed and my friends didn't, they bought the book from me and then passed the next time. Its seems a bit of a scam but if the score matters don't trust the other books. If this test is the difference between getting in or not, which is the case at my school (along with some really good grades).

If it is just a baseline I still would not want it to look like I am not qualified to participate in the program.

I agree completely and would like to pass it the first time. I am not worried about any of the other sections so maybe that will help my score, but I really like to do my best the first time around if possible as a rule for myself. I'll keep looking for the ATI; course chance of my finding out which version and finding it seem slim. Oh well, nobody said nursing school was gonna be easy :)

I think there should be at least three sticky threads:

HESI

ATI

TEAS

I attend Nova annandale and am taking the TEAS on Monday and I JUST now found out that I can do the practice exam thru ATI. Does anyone know what version they use? Is it safe to assume that since the study guide they sell is for the 3.0/4.0 version, the exam is that version? Help! My nerves are already starting and I've been studying for over 2 weeks hardcore!

Thank you in advance :redpinkhe

the version offered depends on where you are taking the test you might have to call and ask just to make sure its not version v

Hello everyone.

Im new in the forum and in nursing too.

I will start my CNA classes next tuesday and will take the teas test on 14 of August 2010. The science part is the one who really concerns me. I bought the book nursing school entrance exams, from McGraw Hill, and now Im trying to see if I can download some GED science books.

The GED science book from McGraw Hill seems very good. Anyone knows where to download for free?

I really need to study. First, I finished high school in 1989. Second, I finished high school in Europe, Im only living in USA since December 2009 and Im trying to improve my english as well

Thank you to everyone :)

Reading the posts were very helpful to me

Congrats mellie74!

I used the teas Pretest study manual and the teas online practice exam version A; there is also a version B if you want take more tests. You can purchase them at the atitesting.com website. The questions on the actual teas test were very similar to the practice questions on the study manual and online practice test. Mcgraw hill is also a pretty good book to study from. You guys will do great!
