What is expected from ATI TEAS Test?

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am very new to the forum, and a have just been admitted to the R.N program this Fall 2010. I just received a letter from my college today saying that I must take an ATI TEAS test with a passing score of 67 in order to proceed with the R.N program at my college. I am from San Francisco CA and I am wondering if anyone took this test and what should be expected from it. I was also wondering if anyone has websites or book titles that may help in preparing for this test??? I am freaking out since the test is in two weeks :uhoh3:

Thanks in advance for any feedback! ;)

No problem, I just noticed it on the bottom of the letter! I'll probably check out that book tomorrow at barnes. Thanks again for the info, and Good Luck.

go to atitesting.com. For $30 you can purchase an online assessment good for two attempts that simulates the exam format you will see on test day. They now use two versions of the TEAS so make sure you verify with your school which version of the teas you will be taking and buy the corresponding ATI TEAS study guide associated with that version. Good luck.

hello help please for teas exam

my test will be next week

It's a general overview of basic knowledge. If you passed high school, you should be ok. It's English (grammar, punctuation, definitions, spelling, etc). Then there are the sciences (basic math, basic earth sciences, into-level chem, etc). If you know how to get the area of a circle, convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, use commas, and construct complete sentences you will be fine.

I ordered a set of TEAS study flashcards from an authorized TEAS reseller for $30. Might be worth it if you want to review the basics. I didn't spend that much time on them. I ended up scoring 94%.

I have been accepted for the RN program this fall and was given less than a week to take the TEAS test. I bought the Mcgnaw study guide (ecopy). Not really helpful but I had no choice as I didn't have enough time for the ATI testing guide to be shipped to me. There were life science questions... about clouds, rocks, plants, sun and earth; Math was reading labels and graphs, calculations, conversions; English... alot of punctuations - make sure you know the difference between colon and semi colon, sentence construction .. though I have taken English 1A and Comm 1, I found it confusing. I paniced starting from 1st test, didn't have enough time for 3 tests except the last test I had 30 mins left. It was tough for me as i took high school 3o years ago in another country. I would say for those who have taken high school here not long ago should be fine.

With all these set-backs, I passed but quite a number didn't and could not join the RN program. I feel real bad for them.

Don't worry, if I can make it, so can you. Practice, practice, practice ... even you have a few days to do so. Don't think about it ... just do it!!!

go to your college book store and they should have the teas study guide. when i bought it, it cost appox $35. i suggest you buy it today and start studying asap. the test is much like the guide. you need to practice doing the math without a calculator, or call your testing center to see if you can use one. they didn't let us use one.

it's a very complex exam, you must study. as long as you study for the next two weeks, you should be alright.

Check with your college bookstore where you will be attending or tyour department of nursing at your school, they may sell the ATI study guide in the event you are pressed for time and feel that you won't receive the ATI TEAS studyguide in time. I believe they also sell them at the major bookstore chains such as borders or barnes and noble as well

I took the TEAS and it's not just basic knowledge, there is a lot of algebra, geometry, etc. Lot of reading comprehension. It was a very difficult test that I studied for months in advance. I was in the 90% percentile, but if I hadn't studied so hard, I doubt very seriously I would have passed.

Hey there,

Thanks for the info and feedback! I will definitely look into getting a study guide since I am pretty rusty on Math and Science!

I was pretty terrible at math and science too...I go almost a perfect score on the other two parts and did fair on math and science but stilled scored in a high percentile so no worries. Again. GL to you.

Thank you all for the feedback!! ;) I will definitely take your advice. I actually purchased a study manual for the TEAS version V yesterday at Barnes and Noble. There is ALOT of material to study!!! I also have the Mcgraw e copy and I took the Diagnostic pre test to see what areas I need to review the most, and surprisingly the Verbal section, I only got more than half correct! Yiiiiikes! I took English 1A and 1B and the questions are pretty tricky. I really feel good about the study guides since it covers alot of material and is organized per subject with plenty practice questions.

Once again, thanks a BUNCH for all the advice!!

I will be studying/reviewing very hard for this test!

Glad you were able to get the study guide. If you can afford it, I would definitely purchase the online assessment at atitesting.com. It is created by ati, the distributors of the TEAS test you will be taking, and the format and questions mirror the test you will see on test day. The $30 allows you two online attempts in a simulated environment with a breakdown of your scores in each section so it gives you an idea of your strengths and weaknesses with each subject
