What is expected from ATI TEAS Test?

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am very new to the forum, and a have just been admitted to the R.N program this Fall 2010. I just received a letter from my college today saying that I must take an ATI TEAS test with a passing score of 67 in order to proceed with the R.N program at my college. I am from San Francisco CA and I am wondering if anyone took this test and what should be expected from it. I was also wondering if anyone has websites or book titles that may help in preparing for this test??? I am freaking out since the test is in two weeks :uhoh3:

Thanks in advance for any feedback! ;)

@Lilykiss6:

By any chance do you know what version teas test we will be taking @ CCSF?

@Chele415

i called them to confirm which version of the test we will be taking and i think she said version iv, but i'm gonna confirm that on Tuesday after the orientation. so you might wanna return the version v text to barnes and noble if you still have the receipt. can't return mine.

oh and are you gonna challenge the keyboarding class? i am planning to, i think it is right after the orientation.

@Lily

Thanks for the info. I tried to email them, but no response. Maybe because it's a weekend lol. I will try and call again tomorrow just to confirm the actual version and I will let you know. Im glad I still have the receipt for version V so i will definitely exchange it for the version iV study manual. I was thinking of challenging the keyboarding class as well on Tuesday. Thanks again.

Yw, leave her a message if you don't get her on the phone, she'll call you back

Does anyone know if I buy the practice TEAS test on atitesting.com if I can print it out? I want to be able to see what I need to work on and go back overt he questions

Thanks

Allison

I was in a panic about taking the TEAS test as well. It's like a mini-SAT test. My advice, at least on the math portion, is to actually WORK OUT the problem. Write it down as you do it. You will retain the information for better recall come test time. Also, if you are stumped on a word problem in the study guide, type it just as it is written in Google. There are people who have worked them out step-by-step. I hadn't done Algebra in years. I ended up scoring a 97% on the math portion after about a week of studying. You can do it. Like others have said, don't over think it and go with your first answer. There are some easy questions that make you actually ask yourself, "was the question REALLY that easy?" Don't over think it. Good luck!

Thank you!:yeah:

I just took the TEAS exam in March. I studyed for that test for over a month....i really needed to brush up on my math. I used ATI Pre-test study manual which cost me 45$....i also used McGraw Hills Nursing School Entrance Exams .book...it was also very helpful..get it at borders or barnes and noble for 20$..money well spent. I advice is to really brush up on your science, i studied hard for the science section and still ended up doing horribly. There were like 2 A&P questions, and the rest were physics, chem, and questions about ROCKS and VOLCANOS, and EARTH PLATES...i know.,..nothing to do with nursing...The reading section is pretty straightforward just read things carefully and you should be fine...the math section wasnt bad either as long as you study...i actually found the english section tricky...i had a hard time with sentence structure. My advice is to not worry too much about the timer on the computer...and TAKE YOUR TIME...i was so freaked out about the test i just rushed through it, even though i had plenty of extra time in the science and english section left over...i just wanted to get out of there! But take your time, take the breaks they allow you to stretch and breathe. I ended up getting into the program, even with doing badly on the science section. Since you are already accepted into the program, and you only have to pass with a 67% you should be fine. Just get that book and brush up on the information, do as many practice questions you can. There are also practice TEAS tests online (although i didnt find them helpful)...GOOD LUCK!!!

i don't know why some colleges use the TEAS exam instead of Hesi-i have taken both! the Hesi exam is 4.5 hours(that's what they say)i took up my whole time-most rushed through it. The TEAS exam is horrible-i studied about a 3 weeks-for those of you that have done pre-algebra-don't worry you'll be fine! but the science parts of test are so broad!! i studied that study guide to its fullest,especially the micro/anat/physio and the questions were so random and very few-it's ridicolous!!! You do need to know your stuff-the good thing is most are composite scores-so you can do real well in some areas and not so well in others.

Most of you have very little time to study-that's horrible!! i would say briefly go over the areas you know already and go onto what you won't naturaly remember like what's in sciences minus math-the math is really basic so don't stress-it's the sciences with so much in study guide it's intimidating-eeeesh, a week or so to study, i would pray,literally.

i don't know why the TEAS has physics and few other subjects that are crazy! the Hesi exam has no chemistry and no physics.

if anyone has questions please let me know-Happy to help :)

i only had a weekend to study because the ATI website sells a study book and took a couple of weeks to deliver. However the ATI website has an excellent online practice test for $30 and was worth every penny. I passed on first try which was not so with many others. Don't use other similar study guides as you won't get the feel for how the test looks. I thought it was a scam to buy the book and test from ATI but it is $60 well spent. Too late for the book but do the online $30 option. It will give you 18 hours of study time- that should be enough.

my suggestion to you is to go to ATItesting.com and ask them what to study! ATI is awesome program and you will benefit greatly from it.

The TEAS is a standardized test...it reminded me of taking the SAT's and GRE's. there are four parts, I think English, Math, Science and Reading comprehension. If you google ATI Teas exam there is a website that recommends a book.I recommend you get it as it is a good review book and has practice questions that are similar type to the ones on the test.

Ask your school first. My school is "springing" them on us at orientation. I just happened to ask if there is an entrance exam; they said yes but ours aren't used for admittance. We have a selective program and they go by GPA to get in. I thought cool, no entrance exam, but I got accepted for August and when I asked just for the heck of it, again, if there was an entrance exam, she said they will give us the TEAS but said it's just a baseline thank goodness--but who wants to study for that plus first semester nursing? I got the McGraw-Hill book to study and hope to do good the first time. But here's why I didn't get the ATI book: The director of the program told me not to buy the book from ATI because then it would mess up my getting an account with ATI when I have to through the school. I've been on this forum for about two years and had never heard of that before, lots of people just get the ATI book, but my school specifically told me not to.

Addendum: They told me not to do the online ATI study. Of course you can go buy the book! Geesh I hadn't ready all the responses when I first wrote this. I think I am going to buy the ATI book. I am very worried about "basic" science, rock formations, etc., as I was in high school a very long time ago and I know I won't pass that part, but from what I hear it all goes into the score (I don't know this for a fact, just reading posts), so if you do really well on reading and math, for example, and not so good on the others it is still possible to score okay. Anybody correct me if I'm wrong on that.
