I'm almost done with Anatomy and physiology 1. I have a B in that class. What should I expect with Microbiology?

Microbiology is all about bacteria and viruses/ other small organisms, you learn lab techniques you get tp grow cultures, identify and examine types of bacteria and learn differences between differeng types like gram negative, gram positive etc. You learn how they are pathogenic and how our body defends against them and also how they defend and protect themselves against us. You get to do case studies. You also learn all about the structures of different microorganisms, you will also probably talk about medications that target specific organisms and how they kill it or subdue it. Very interesting course and you learn a lot and it is a lot of information but take it all in stride. You also learn a lot about immunity and what not lots of stuff about our immunity to microorganisms and much much more.

I am taking it in the Fall and was scared until I read Cheripk's post. Thank you, you just eased my mind about the subject. It sounds much more interesting than I had originally thought!

Strange, but Micro isn't part of my school's ADN curriculum. I am relieved about that. But I wonder if we are missing important info.

I will be done next week. I got absolutely nothing out of this class. I am finished with a year of nursing classes, and learned all of this already. It's not hard, just memory intensive. Luckily, not as bad as A&P.

I am done with my summer micro class in a week as well. I have found it very interesting but it has been more challenging than I anticipated. Lots of terminology and I found the sections on bacterial genetics extremely challenging. Our last exam on immune response and adaptive immunity was also a lot of comprehension and equally as challenging. Much more intense than I expected.

Most interesting course I've taken so far. I agree with exactly what Cheripk said. I liked working with the microbes and all the microscopy side of it. Th problem is that I took micro over summer and I felt like we didn't have enough time to go deep on some topics, other than that, Micro is a FUN class.

Hi all. I took micro in the Spring. I give props to those doing this class in the Summer! Intense class, lots of info even in a 16 week semester. A lot of memorizing and understanding procedures in the lab experiments. Glad it's over! Good luck!

In my opinion, microbiology was much easier to learn than A&P. YMMV. Best of luck!

Your A&P will help you in micro as far as cellular physjiology. I LOVED micro, esp the lab. Growing out the cultures and running the tests. Our last project was identifying 2 unknowns. It was SO MUCH FUN. Like being a detective. I toyed with the idea of going to med tech school for a day because of micro (that's what medical technologists do-lab rats LOL)

I liked micro more than A&P II. I took both classes the same semester and some of the material was covered in both classes. Make sure you really get down the gram positive and gram negative in the beginning of the course. I loved the lab. Most of our lab was doing test on our unknown bacteria. We had all semester to figure out what we had.
