ER Nursing notes tips
Hey everyone! I'm a new ER nurse (new grad) and I was wondering what you all absolutely include in your initial notes when you see someone as a new patient and then your follow-up notes what you like to include, or are sure to include. I think I'm getting better at writing notes but I was looking for different things that you all may do to protect yourself while providing good patient info/updates. Im in a very busy ER so Im looking for a way to write awesome notes while also being time conscious. Thanks in advance!

Will I ever be done?!
I felt like I was in school FOREVERRR doing my pre reqs for the nursing program, and sometimes I wanted to take a semester off but I never did because I honestly just wanted to get it done and over with. Trust me when I say this, once you get into the program it will fly by, you will seem so busy and the time will just pass. You will get there even though it seems like forever. Better to get it all over with now than to just keep increasing the time lol Good luck to you :)

Feeling discouraged in nursing school with little sleep
Your situation sounds very difficult, While I don't have experience with a baby when I was in school, it seems like you just need some ways to help you relax or organize your time better, are you in school for those 9hrs a day 5 days a week? How much of this time consist of study time? I definitely lived off coffee while I was in school lol what portion of your day consist of lecture and what portion for clinical? Sorry just trying to get an idea of what a typical day is like for you so I can help give you some advice. Can you just describe what your typical day is like?

ER Tech or CNA while in Nursing School
ER techs are still CNA's but they actually get trained to do more, I think it will be very beneficial to have ER experience and they may even hire you as a nurse when you are finished. There is also a lot of great learning experiences and things to see in the ER and I'm sure the nurses would be happy to include you when the opportunity arises to learn from patients, especially the critical patients. If anything becoming an ER tech should help you. good luck!

Anyone ever just do KAPLAN QBANK only? Thoughts?
I used the kaplan qbank for one month and thought it helped so much, it does have practice test too that you take along with all of the rationales for the questions, It prepared me enough for the exam I felt and I ended up passing with 75. Wish you luck! I recommend it, well worth 49$, I was not about to pay 400$ for a class when I just went through two years of school! lol

TEAS V test
ATI sells a study book from there website and practice test, The TEAS is very similar to that guide, it's been a long time but thats what I used when I took it and it helped greatly. You can probably find it used as well.

How fast does Pearson have seat availability?
Like you already said it does greatly vary, When I got my ATT I scheduled a test 3 days later (they happened to have a seat available for that day) all the locations near me were full for the time frame I was looking for so I drove an hour away to get this specific date, I wanted to do my test asap. If I didn't come across that one test date that was open I believe the next available date was about 3 weeks ahead, There are a lot of spring grads coming out and I live in an area saturated with schools so times where taken up really fast. Honestly I would say don't worry about testing and planning with other people, just pick a date that suits you best and allows you to focus. People cancel and reschedule test all the time so if you want something close keep checking the website daily to move your test date if you want. So the answer is pearson may have something quick, or they may not have anything for weeks, they don't just do nclex so other people that take test through pearson also schedule test. Good luck!

Kaplan Q bank question
Hey everyone! Im studying for my NCLEX RN and I have been using the kaplan question bank and kaplan book, I was wondering if everyone knows what kind of scores you should be getting on practice test (I create a test at 75 questions from the unused portion of questions)I would say Im getting about low-mid 60s on my self made practice test. for example my last four test I took made up of 75 questions I got 69%, 67%, 72% and 68% (they seem to be trending up a little). Anyone else doing kaplan questions/ have succeeding in passing NCLEX using this kind of method, any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Does Anatomy & Physiology help you in nursing?
Absolutely it helps, some parts more than others, but going into nursing with that knowledge is going to help you.

How important is microbiology?
I personally did not think micro was very hard, and I also enjoyed the class very much, especially the lab portion (it was very interactive). At my school they focus the micro to the medical community in a sense so we learned a lot not only about bacteria but how it interacts with us, and medications used against different types and how bacteria and such protect themselves against medications etc. I took micro a year out from the start of my program and though it was a long time from the start of the program, I think many of the key points have stuck with me. Micro is very important, but I think it's one of those classes where a lot of the info just kind of sticks with you. Good luck and enjoy it! At this point I'm going into my final year of nursing school and I took micro almost 2 years ago and the information from micro just rolled into what we learned.

A&P2--Heart...apps, flashcards??
I agree with the other posters, I made my own flashcards and it helped so much, also I used youtube for all the videos explaining how things work, that seemed to help me a lot. Good luck!

New nursing student advice
Everyone is different but heres what helped me and what I used for my first semester, My tablet was my life I looked anything and everything up right away and had my powerpoints from the course available at the tip pf my finger. I did not take many hand notes, I sat in class and listened then I would read over content later and make note cards. I did not try to over think things I made it as simple as possible to help me understand. The app micromedex is a drug guide app, this will help a lot especially in clinical and its free! a lot of the content you learn is actually interesting so it may allow you to remember it better. Do not overstudy, give yourself breaks in between as be sure to make time for yourself. Do not procrastinate it will not help lol. I also did not group study, personally I study better alone and can focus better alone.good luck! And congratulations!

Applying to CCBC's Spring 2013 RN Program
So exciting. I am currently in my first semester at the catonsville day program, its been a long journey to this point but it feels good to finally be here. Congrats on applying, when I submitted my app I nearly drove myself crazy waiting for a notice for two months and it felt so good to finally get that acceptance. The program has been great so far with great instructors and we have learned so much already and its just semester one. I applied with a 3.7gpa in the pre reqs and proficient on the teas. Good luck!
