What on earth have I got???

Published

Besides a temp of 104, excrutiating pains running all through my shoulderblades, the usual freezing and shaking of the bed so bad you'd think I was starring in the "excorsist"... NO respiratory symptoms whatso ever... no cold, no sore throat, no cough, no wheezing... but extreme headache (possibly fever related) ?

I have never, and I do mean NEVER in my entire life been this sick, hurting this badly. :o

Started yesterday afternoon with the chilling.. took right to the bed. It was killing me to lay in the bed because when I'm cold, I'm instantly in the fetal position. Well, my hip bones (regardles of which side) hurt so bad, I wanted to scream. Every place on my body HURT SEVERELY... wierd places.. my deltoid, my ankle, between the scapulae... as if someone were tearing out the muscle in there. Could NOT get comfortable enough to ease the pain.. EVERYWHERE.

Ibuprofen, water, sleep.. when it finally came. So groggy this am and so weak I could barely drag these legs to the bathroom. Head killing me still like a wicked hangover. Took two more ibuprofen and slept til 0900. Broke the fever and thoroughly soaked the bed... I thought HURAAAAAAAAAAAAAY !!! Felt a whole lot better.. strength returned, no H/A... thought it was done for.

NOT. At 1220 the same symptoms returned... chilling, shaking, freezing.. H/A, PAIN EVERYWHERE. I wanted to scream out in pain. Temp back up to 104... slept the next three hours.. just got up.. still groggy, extremely weak, H/A.

If this were a "flu" would there not be the ususal respiratory s/s ?

And if it's not the flu, then what the heck IS it??? I dread later on tonight... know it's going to come back and torment me again. If it's not gone by tomorrow, off to my NP I go !

my hubby get those same symptons about once a year. he usually can feel when it's coming. he shakes so bad and hard (i think the technical term is rigors) that the bed shakes or if he is in the bathtub there are waves. one time he even went to the er hoping for an answer. they told him probably a viral syndrome or influenza. afterwards his muscles feel like he just ran the marathon without a warmup. for him he treats himself with tylenol, ibuprofen, lot of liquids. the symptons usually last for a few hours then subside ... only to repeat itself a year later. i told him it is probably something incubating in him then when an opportunity arises i.e. stress it comes to haunt him.

good luck!

J-nette, honey, you have the flu.

The ONE year I didn't get a flu shot I got the flu. My husband came down with it 2 days before me. We lost an entire week, my kids were about 8, 9 & 13, ten years later I still have no clue what they did to survive.

I remember laying on the sofa, crying because I was so miserable and hurt so much. I would have gone to the hospital if I thought they would have admitted me. There were points when death would have been welcomed, I have never felt so awful in my life.

I thought my husband was the only one who did that!

His last about 12 hours then he feels like heck, weak & exhausted for about 24 more.

He seems to get 1 of each every year, 1 'flu like attack, one 24 hour GI bug and 1 minor cold a year. The jerk is never down for more than 24-48 hours...makes me want to have him exposed to something non-lethal that jusk kicks his tail for 5-7 days.

If a kid even comes on on our block with any bug I catch it.

Throwing in a different opinion here!

I've had symptoms like these several times in my life. The one common factor was a nearly complete absence of respiratory symptoms, though once I had a blinding headache, and usually there was some nausea, but no vomiting. Very sudden onset, left almost as quickly after tx with abx. Once the doc suggested a UTI, as I did have some pelvic pain along with it.

Well, a couple of years back, I developed a really large ovarian cyst. It twisted or perhaps bled a bit, producing similar symptoms, but this time along with severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting.

I now realize that the previous attacks were the spontaneous rupture of SMALL ovarian cysts. I was dx with a cyst on one previous occasion, but it vanished on its own, so I know I did have a history of them.

I can't imagine Jnette having the flu without at least SOME resp. symptoms.

:sniff: Whatever you've got, hun, I wish you a quick recovery!

Lori

On the evening news at 11pm it had a special report saying that the midwest was being hit 'hard' with influenza and actually it was a strain that was not sensitive to the flu shot.

Sorry Love, this sounds like the flu. Believe me when I get it I hurt in every joint of my body, even in my toes. I hope you get to feeling better soon!:kiss

Yep, that's been me ALL my life ! Exactly. Guess some of my lucky stars have just fallen from the sky. :o

Taking advantage of a moment's reprieve to thank you all for your replies and well-wishes. Don't know how long this reprieve will last and I sure don't have much strength...can you visualize me crawling up to my keyboard? But your kindnesses deserved a response no matter how puny I feel !

Slept most of the day yesterday (when blessed sleep would finally come) and I could feel my jammies and sheets just drenching wet several times.. didn't care.. the temp and freezing would continue, then hot as hadies.. on and on...

yes, some nausea and abd. pain, too, no vomiting. Right now afebrile again.. don't know for how long. Better go see my NP today, even if I might be over the worst of it... my strength is sapped and there's no way I could possibly work at dialysis tomorrow, with all the bending over, transferring w/c patients, schlepping those heavy bicarb and acid jugs... better get a "note for the teacher".

I think I know what exposed me to this. Spent Sunday with my dtr. and we went all over town poking around in stores having a grand ol' "mother/daughter day". Of course I had to TOUCH EVERYTHING, and the stores were packed full with the "Christmas Season" upon us. I'm one to stick my fingers in my mouth a lot, so I must have picked it up there. That'll teach me to leave my little nest here on the mtn. and go to the "big city"... sheesh.

OK... had enough, strength is rapidly waning... crawling back under the covers now.

Thanx again, you guys ! You're the best. :)

I just got over the flu, myself. Haven't been posting much. hope you get well very soon, Jnette!
