in no way should you take this lying down. i suggest getting your documentation to justify your nursing care. you should also demand a written apology from the nurse you confronted, the supervisor who ordered you off the unit and security. and you should fill out greivance papers for harrassment. believe it or not you have rights not to be humilated or harassed on the job. of course the lawyer is the next step (if needed). if you accept this treatment it can happen again. if you want respect sometimes you have to demand it. good luck.

my pinning ceremony had similar issues. they required the women to wear the stupid cap. i did not attend the ceremony because of the cap issue. to this day i do not regret not attending.

2nd hand smoke also kills. so let me get this straight. the super asks the nurse to drop everything to take the pt. down to smoke. the nurse puts her license at risk, puts her work behind and also her health at risk. who in their right mind would do it? if there are 5 nurses on the floor and one house super then the "power" is with the nurses. all 5 should refuse. do you really think the house super will send all 5 home? even if she writes everyone up how do you think s/he will look...silly. imo.

anyone can legally call themselves a "nurse". however, only those w/ an RN license can call themselves a "registered nurse". report them to the board of nurses. they should be the ones to deal w/ this person.

i knew an oncologist who smoked cigars. i asked him why considering the cancer risk. he told me it is the chemicals in the cigarettes that cause cancer, not the tobacco itself. he said the cigars he smoked did not have chemicals. is this true?

i too do not support teachers playing the role of nurse. schools need nurses to be nurses. 'nuff said.

if you do not plan on working for a while you may want to put your license on inactive status. i may be wrong but i have a florida licence which i will put on inactive status this year for the first time. they do not require ce's for inactive status. i do them anyway to maintain my knowledge. my favorite site is http://www.nursingspectrum.com because they offer one free ce every month. let us know what you do.

for those who are afraid of being sued, just remember nowhere does it say you have to give your name. i knew someone who stopped to give first aid to someone after an accident. she said she gave a fake name because she wanted to help but feared the reprocussions (sp?). it is true the good samaritan laws will protect you however, you will still have to pay for your legal defense and your lost time from work. if confronted, i would help a person in need because i always think if it were me or one of my family i would want someone to help them.

my RN-BSN program is 95% online. they have the goal to have a 100% online program in the near future. you might check them out: Texas Tech University Health Science Center. There is one campus in Lubbock and one in Odessa. Another program you might check is the University of New Mexico in Albaquerque (spelling?). They might be cheaper. They charge in state tuition for 6 credit hours or less. I am currently researching their program for graduate level courses. hope this helps.

i think most va hospitals are much better than this one depicted. however, all are ridden with problems. my husband works for a va outpt. clinic. he complained because there is a 6 month waiting list to get a 24 hour halter monitor for a patient. the don of the facility said "maybe your clinic is ordering too many." all the facilities are victims of the cutbacks and financial constraints.

when i was in school we were tested on sterile technique. it was a do or die test. that means if you broke sterility, even the tiniest bit, you were flunked from the program. you bet your booty i learned how to do it perfectly. it is difficult but with practice it can be done. :stone

now this might seem petty to you but it is important to me. let me explain my dilemna briefly. i went on an interview recently. i don't have a need for business-like clothes so I have one dress that i only use for interviews. i put it on for the interview and change right after. i refer to it as my "interview uniform". anyway my question is for the fashion conscious out there. i have been invited back for a follow-up interview with the same person. should i wear the same dress or should i go out and buy something else. like i said i don't have a need for business-clothes so it seems silly to spend money on more business-clothes. any suggestions? btw - i don't know anyone with the same size as me to borrow something.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Southwest/03/21/medical.helicopter.ap/index.html read the above article. it is about a medical helicopter that crashed. the pilot, patient, patient's mother, paramedic are dead. the nurse is in critical condition. i feel sad because i live in this area so i know how that helicopter service has been crucial in the lives of the area's patients. i feel sad because here are medical personnel who were trying to do their job to help someone they don't know. my prayers go to the families who are left behind and those who gave their lives doing what they loved.

you have time to take out the trash? btw - something i was taught a long time ago. no matter how much you wash your hands they are never 100% clean. even though everyone wears gloves and is diligent about washing hands you are never as clean as you think. now i am wondering you as a nurse clean poop and take out the trash and then you do a surgical dressing change or insert an iv. then everyone wonders where that patient caught the nosocomial infection? anyone listening?
