Nurses that are brilliant but do not know the difference between contraindication and contradiction! :rotfl:

Oh, and techs who won't fill water pitchers. Just drives me nuts. I get that they can't be everywhere at once, but this just ought to be something that's routinely done, with baths, with vitals, etc. PLEASE.
When I was a student, and also worked as a RN in country hospitals, we always went round & filled the water jugs, got tea & coffee etc for every patient at about 1pm - b4 handover. This is part of rural nursing. I wish we had techs & PTs etc to help out with our work, it would be nice. In the bigger hospitals, we still have to make tea/coffee etc as the kitchen girl only comes round a few times a day to do this. I wish we had ward helpers too - the best we get it volunteers, but they don't work reliable hours & rarely go near any patients, they sit in the back rooms not doing much it seems. My pet peeve: why hire volunteers if they can't help out with patients requests at least for tea & coffee?
two of my pet peeves:people who come on a professional forum and write in "text speak." if you can write out "predicament", "radiating" and "shackled", why can't you write out "you", "your" or "to"?
people who step on a vent thread by telling anyone who is venting what an awful person/nurse/colleague they are.
no that it's any of your business ruby - or anyone elses really - but i damaged my shoulder a while ago, & as all my study is online (no paper involved), i have to use the computer. i also have to find ways of saving my shoulder from being inflamed.
so what about & for 'and' - can we not use that as well? that has been an acceptable abbreviation since i learned to write. is there a specific rule re this?
i suggest if u don't like my posts, please don't read them if they offend you, or u find them hard to read.
btw my shoulder is getting a little better by not typing longer words.
When off-going shift leaves me with bad IV's...and single-lumen PICC lines. Seriously, what's the point???
Single lumen PICCS are such a waste of time. Give me a double lumen at tleast, better yet a triple lumen PICC. Especially in the ICU.
I hate being left with bad IV's too. That annoys me. I had a nurse tell me that she left the IV in because she knew she wouldn't get another one in so she didn't try. Meanwhile his IV site is all red, and leaking propofol. Great. Thank God that pt got a PICC that day.
When people carry on side conversations during report. We get a taped report and already hard enough to hear a crummy recording without people blabbing.
When people cram the laundry bin waaaaay past full and then leave it for others to empty.
When I have been off of work for three days and find out that the last time my patient had oral care was when I worked last!
People that take offense at posts that having nothing to do with them personally.

--hq, we are totally on the same page with the oral care! so so so irritating and terrible for the pts.
I never understood it. It's not a big deal to do and it's something you wouldn't forget to do for yourself (or I would hope).
Plus, if say you do a thorough job of oral care Q-shift(swabs, cleaner, mouth moisturizer, lip balm), then you can do just a couple of quick swabs with cold water Q2hours with their Q2hour turns(this is usually the case)... that's my system, at least... lol

I agree. I can't remember how many patients needed hemostats to peel off the layer of crud on their soft palate from who knows how long between thorough oral care. It was so gross.
Cell phones. Leaving the room during pt. care to answer the phone and chat for 10 minutes. Or worse, having that danged phone up to your ear the entire time you are caring for someone. Put the dang phone away until you are done! This pt. and I do NOT want to know why it was so urgent for you to take that call. We do not need to hear about your friends cheating husband, lousy landlord, terrible job situation etc...Being on the floor and working means taking care of pts. now hang up that phone and get busy doing your job!......sorry...just ranting

I bet your shoulder would be even better if you only spent time on the computer for school and work.
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I agree with the majority of this, even though I'm a BSN.
But what do you consider as 'old'? Just curious.
