Mr. William who had recently retired, was enjoying an afternoon of plyaing golf when suddenly the experienced a severe headache and dizziness. These symptoms were quickly followed by numbness and partial paralysis on the upper right side of his body, accompanied by an inability to speak. After being rushed to the emergency room, Mr. William was diagnosed as having suffered a stroke. Given the observed neurologic impairment, what areas of his brain were affected? so what do you think ? need help.

Sounds like a homework assignment? You should find the answers after doing a little reasearch.

Is this a homework assignment? Test question?
Instead of just giving you the answer, I will suggest you go to your anatomy book and find what areas of the brain control these actions... Also review in your MS book neurological impairment, stroke, etc...
You won't learn if we just give you the answers, so hopefully this will point you in the right direction. Good luck!

What is going on with students on this site lately??? This is the third question from a student looking for us to answer a question that can be easily answered by reading notes or your book, or googled. I don't mind people asking a tricky nclex style question that have two answers that could be right, but this is just a straightforward question that just requires good old fashioned studying.

Think about how the brain works. The deficit is on the right so the infarct/injury would be where? I will make you think not answer for you.
He has trouble speaking, so which area of the brain affects the speech? Look this up and you will have your answer.

This one is specifically looking for answers which is pretty easy to find in the ways I described, and that is why I have a problem with it.

strokes are classified by the artery affected and that is done by the symptoms. the right sided numbness and partial paralysis on the upper right side and the aphasia would indicate a middle cerebral artery infarct or hemorrhage occurred on the left side of the brain, probably in the left frontal lobe. this is the artery that is usually involved in most strokes. now, you just need to map out where the middle cerebral artery is in the brain to make sure i've given you correct information! here are some interesting websites that can help you do that:
[*]http://www.strokecenter.org/education/ais_vessels/ - the blood vessels of the brain and how they are affected by stroke.

[*]http://pathology.mc.duke.edu/neuropath/nawr/blood-supply.html - animations of the locations of the major arteries in the brain
there are anatomy and physiology weblinks on post #45 of this sticky thread on the student forums of allnurses:

The time it takes for you to post this message, you can google.....1)areas of the brain that affect speech 2) stroke 3) strokes and the areas that affect the right side of the body. There is endless help out there even if you dont want to crack open your book. First of all you wouldnt have a question like this in school without first having a reading assignment that covers this specific topic. I was too broke in nursing school to have a computer to ask these questions of nurses. I had to do it the old fashioned way and actually read my assigned lessons and take hand written notes and use a highlighter......Imagine that!
And people still want to deny that they have never been involved in eating our young.
