Ok. Maybe that isn't a fair title. Perhaps some of the excuses are true. But I would like to see what others have been told as far as why someone called off. Here's a few of my favorites:
1. My babysitter is in jail so I can't come in.
2. I burned my hand on some food so I can't work today.
3. I forgot I had to work today, so I stayed up too late and am too tired to come in.
4. My child got stung by a bee (several hours ago) so I don't want to come in.
5. I'm mad at (supervisor) so I'm not working today.
I have used "I'm stressed to death and am taking a "mental health" day today." Yes, I was wrote for an absence, lol. But I was being honest. Anyway, what have you heard?
I once had a coworker who called in for the AM shift because Donny Osmund was on the today show and she didn't want to miss it.
Funniest part is she ended up coming in on the AM shift and we were all Like, "we thought you called in lastnight for today.."
She went out and had some drinks the night before and forgot she called in sick!!!! LOL
I once chipped a tooth on the way to a shift! It was my front tooth and it is bonded from a childhood injury. The bonding popped off on a straw and I was missing HALF of my front tooth. It hurt, too. I called in over that. No one said anything b/c I'd never called out before. But I bet they were rolling their eyes over it!
Actually that happened to me about 25 years ago, lol! I was told to go take some Imodium.
Someone at work was out. When she got back after a few days, I asked her "is everything all right?" She told me she just had a really bad stomach bug. When she called reporting vomiting and diarrhea, she said that the one particular charge nurse who never calls off (and doesn't think anyone else should) when through a list of about 10 "did you try...?" suggestions. I'm sure Imodium was on the list.

I just prefer if people don't tell me. it's none of my business...if there is an issue the manager can talk with them. I once had someone call in and tell me they "have the runs" then she got all descriptive. Yea, even though im a nurse I prefer not to hear about my coworkers "runs."
just say your calling in and if there are issues manager can call you. I don't care.
