Whadda u think about the college network?

All of the good and bad...i want to hear it ALL...trying to make up my mind..my bestest friend just signed her life away with them.

There are multiple threads here warning people about using these expensive publishing companies to get a nursing degree from Excelsior.

Some here have said that they were helpful in passing exams, but even those who say they are helpful will still encourage you to try to buy them on E-Bay or something rather than sign a contract.

I never used them so I can't say whether or not they are helpful, but I am living proof that they are not necessary in order to get through your RN program.

I try to encourage people to try taking at least one exam on your own before using one of these companies.

You may very well find that you can pass them without buying expensive study guides.

Excelsior provides great outlines of the content of each of the exams, and all of the needed information can be studied in a plain ole current nursing textbook or NCLEX review book.

Many of us graduated from EC without the use of College Network, Rue, etc.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

My spouse went through them to get his Masters and had a positive, yet expensive experience.

I've heard some negative things about the undergrad level though.

I just signed with The College Network because they take care of a lot of annoying asspects of paper work for you. I know they are more expensive than going to a college but it is a convience and we all know that is expensive anyway. I checked these people out thoroughly with Indiana State University and they are legite. In fact ISU recommended them to me so that I could get some pre-recs out of the way and get started in the LPN to BSN program. I am enrolled and on my way now. I am also taking some of the classes at my local community college because I just can't see myself testing out of statistics lol. Either way we go with our educations, someone else is going to make some money lol. So far I have found nothing bad about The College Network, only stuff I hear on this board that I really question the intent of the replier or thread starter. I guess it all depends on what you want personally and the steps you are willing to take. I am willing to take this step to get it over with and go on with my career.

sorry..you made me giggle!

Glad to hear you have had a good experience Wings. I also signed up with the college network last year. I have yet to really buckle down but I love the convenience factor. I think a lot of people who start the negative threads do not realize what they are signing up for. I understood the program from the very beginning. A lot of people fall into the pitch, which dont get me wrong sounds wonderful, but there are no shortcuts to getting your education. Good luck Wings! God Bless!

This very refreshing to hear. A college network representitive came out to my house, I signed the contract and was very excited, but when i started going through the forums here I chickened out and signed a cancellation within the three day period they allow. Now I feel bad that I did that. I really want to get my BSN online, but it's so scary because I don't know who to go through and get the best results: A good education, a nice price and convenience. I have 2 children ages 2 and 3, and I work full time nights! Geesh:rolleyes:

I am using TCN, I like it. and yes you have to pay for convenience, I need it I don't have time to look for and read a lot of nursing books. I have passed all my coruses so far,no complaints here.you have to be motivated to do the program.LINDA

i took all my nc exams using the college network study guides. they are a little vague but are overall on the money. i did not sign any expensive contracts and purchased all my books on ebay 1-7. i do suggest using tcn and another resource like notes from the ec yahoo groups. that is what worked for me. good luck! :nurse:

Hi,

i am about to sign with college network but am still leary of the contract commitment. Was reading your post and wondered how far along you are in the program now....Are you enrolled with ISU?
