For those currently attending WGU or who have just applied to WGU, may I ask why WGU over UTA (University of Texas at Arlington)?
It looks like the BSN portion of UTA is very comparable price wise to WGU if one takes two terms at WGU (which is what it might take me). I'm not sure how to best compare the MSN route between the two as my current thoughts is WGU would be more economical for the RN to MSN route.
If you looked at UTA for the RN to BSN, RN to MSN route but picked WGU, can you please share with me your thought process as to why WGU?
Thank you!
Hi, I just talked with my mentor at WGU, as I will start my program December. I kept asking her about finishing in 6 months and she kept saying that wasn't possible. So how is it that you finished in 7 months.
Its possible if you stay on task and on top of the assignments but not typical if that makes sense.
Not everyone can expect to finish their RN to BSN in less than 6 months so it would be prudent of your mentor to not get your hopes up falsely.
I'm doing the BSN to MSN and my goal is for under two semesters or under a year. Now whether I'm done in 7, 8, 9, etc months we'll see but I'm already on my sixth class since August 1st so it's a high probability.
Helpful? Anymore questions?
Happy turkey day!
I did not look into UT but I am attending WGU for the RN to BSN program. I am loving the competency based program and I am accelerating through the the courses because I have a strong science/nursing background. There is a good chance that I will complete my BSN in 1 term. I need to earn 39 credits total. I am 6 weeks into term and should have 14/39 credits by this Friday. This program is great for self-motivated independent learners.

It is possible, I did it. But not everyone is able to because everyone learns differently. Depends on your learning style and the time that you can/will put into it.
I'm at WGU too, 2 credits away (yes Community Health Field Experience ) from my BSN. I'm in the RN-MSN Leadership program but now I'm looking to focus on clinical so I plan to withdraw but will have my BSN. Community Health is taking me 2 terms unfortunately because of the hours requirement. Worst class ever, but otherwise I do love WGU for lots of reasons. I heard they are thinking about an NP program but sure that will take some time to get in place. I'm looking for an online PMHMP program that has some clinical time onsite periodically or that sets up your preceptorship. I checked out Walden online and they take CT students but I'd rather not coordinate my own hours. Other than that I cant tell by their website whether their classes are asynchronous like WGU or something different. Wondering if you or anyone else has any suggestions here. Thanks
Thanks for the input! How is the msn program going? Which major did you choose?
I think this was meant for me
So far it's going great, the only snag I've hit are for the field experience classes, and only because I didn't reach out to my work soon enough to set up mentors. I think everything is going to work out fine though when you're t all comes down to it!
I chose the leadership/management track because I wasn't for sure I wanted education and I know with either track if I want to go on to NP, which is highly unlikely, then I would just do a post-masters.
I want ant to do staff development one day but I don't know in what avenue. At my work I could be a manager, supervisor, unit educator, or work in education with the leadership/management degree.
