WGU / Straighterline advice?

Updated:   Published

Looking at the WGU pre-licensure BSN program. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Looks like a great program for me (mom of two little ones). The advisor there recommended finishing my A & P and Microbiology prerequisites through their partner Straighterline. Any advice or words or wisdom / caution?

I think you should take it at straighterline versus WGU (if you can).

Ok thanks. I am really nervous starting Straighterline but Im hoping things will work out good.

Hi Jaide06, how is the Sociology class at Straighterline? Are the exams proctored? Did you take another class with them? Did you enroll at WGU how is the process? I am planning to enroll at WGU soon but I would like to take some prereq before enroll. did you take Statistic at Straighterline?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, I didn't see your message. The sociology at straighterline was good. It was self paced, a lot of reading. The quizzes are not proctored and generally had 10-15 questions each. The first few modules, in additonal to the quiz there is a question which requires a short writing assignment (1-2 paragraphs) that is actually read by a instructor who grades it and gives you feedback. After that, it's only reading and quizzes. The final exam was proctored. It was a video proctor which is pretty cool. that's the only class I took with them. After I finished, I put in a request for my transcript to be sent to WGU and it took about 24 hours and I got a email from WGU stating that it had been received.

I have not enrolled at WGU yet, I'm submitting my application in June after I take my Teas. Yesterday sent over my recommendation letter, student statement/letter of intent and my resume. so now I just need to take my Teas test and see what happens. Im nervous about the test.

My co-worker is currently in the WGU program and she took a few straighterline courses (not sure which ones, but I know statistics was not one of them), I asked her about the statistics course and she said I should take it through WGU. That's what I'm going to do, mostly because the cost is the same no matter what for the pre-t @ WGU, but I am transferring pharmacology from SL to WGU from the things I've heard. You will probably be okay with whatever you choose, but wanted to add my two cents with advice from someone who just took the statistics course at WGU this past term.

The two courses that I hear people complain about are biochem and statistics. If you can transfer any of those in you'll save yourself some stress. The new biochem I hear is fairly hard compared to when I took it. pharmacology is actually really easy, it's not what you would think pharmacology is it was very basic.

what did you end up doing? I'm in this position now with 3 little ones at home

I took statistics through WGU. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It took me 5 weeks but there are a lot of resources and encouragement. I'd bite the bullet and just go through WGU.

Hi Jade06- just wondering if you can tell me how long the Sociology through Straighterline took?

So I started it, then I stopped it for 1 month while I complete another class and the. I restarted it. From start to finish, the actual time it took me to complete the course was about 3 weeks, maybe 4. That's with me working full time and just spending a couple days a week working at it. The reading took the longest. In think that it could be completed fasted with more determination and focus

If you take classes from Straighteline as prerequisites for a BSN program. Would that cause a problem once you apply for a grad school since Straighterline is not accredited?

That's a great question. I don't know the answer to that.
