  1. Hello, Does anyone have any resources for telemedicine / telenursing for my son’s public charter school in Los Angeles? There is no school nurse and I had the idea that our school could possibly have access to a telehealth program... Anyone know of an organization or app or company that works with kids in schools?
  2. Hello, I just took the A & P from StraighterLine since my first choice school is WGU, but now I'm getting nervous about the transferability to other schools should I not get into WGU. I'm looking at Cal State LA BSN, West Coast University and community colleges. I have two children under age 6, and I really wanted to try to do all of my prereqs online, but I don't think Cal State will accept that. Does anyone know of a good A & P class and Microbiology class that won't take a super long time to complete? Thank you!
  3. My situation: I was premed in college (BA Anthropology) then went to film school to become a screenwriter. Hacked away at that for a long time, then got married and had two kids, now Hollywood is just not for me. (I'm turning towards fiction/book writing as a side activity.). I also teach private yoga and meditation classes currently which fits with my schedule as a full time mom. But, I'm looking at the long term, and I'm also working on prerequisites for the pre-licensure BSN @ WGU (hopefully), and just need A & P 1 and 2 and microbiology, and the TEAS test. I just turned 39. I'm REALLY nervous about getting through school with two kids. I really love being a very hands on mom (ages 5 and 2). I can see myself being fulfilled by an advanced practice nursing career, but I'm feeling really daunted about getting there. I would want to go straight through to an NP program (I know there is controversy about this by I think at my age I should just get the full degree). I'm just daunted I guess by so many warnings about how hard school and clinical is, that I don't see how to do it with kids...
  4. Thanks for responding! Sounds like we are in a similar situation... would you be available to talk sometime about all of these potential pathways to nursing? I got nervous about StraighterLine because it's not accredited, and in case I don't get in to WGU i didn't want to be stuck with A & P and Microbiology credits that didn't transfer. I'm still feeling a bit confused and daunted by the path ahead, and am unsure if I should just do an associate's degree and then an RN to BSN bridge program, and then continue on to the NP program. It does seem though like WGU would be the best of all worlds, slower paced, online, etc.
  5. I am in Los Angeles
  6. Hello, does anyone have any advice about where to take online / distance prerequisites for Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology plus labs? I have two small kids and am also finding it hard to get registered and enrolled at a community college before classes fill up because I have a BA so am last in line. I am looking for something accredited that will be accepted at a variety of programs. Thank you!
  7. Looking at the WGU pre-licensure BSN program. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Looks like a great program for me (mom of two little ones). The advisor there recommended finishing my A & P and Microbiology prerequisites through their partner Straighterline. Any advice or words or wisdom / caution?
  8. Thank you! So did you go to a community college to become an RN? I am trying to figure out if I should do that or a regular BSN program. I ultimately want to be an NP as well as a lactation consultant.
  9. Thank you, that sounds ideal; do you happen to know if there is a big difference between the state university route for a BSN and doing the RN program at a community college and then an RN>BSN bridge program?
  10. Hello, I am working on prereqs right now for ABSN/ Entry level masters programs, but I'm getting a little nervous about the intensity of these programs. I have two small children, and am starting to wonder if it is possible to do a slower paced / part time BSN / MSN program and what those look like, where they can be found. I have a B.A. already so maybe there is a scenario in which I can just do the nursing part of the BSN and not the general ed requirements? I like to be very available and involved as a parent. Thank you to anyone who can give me some guidance!
  11. Thank you! Was it a BSN program?
  12. Thank you... Is there such a thing as an ABSN that is not so accelerated / a bit drawn out?
  13. Newnurse085, can you tell me about your experience going to school and starting nursing career with two little ones? I have a 3.5 year old and an 8 month old I am with full time. Planning to finish prerequisites this year, not sure when to apply though for the ABSN. I'm in LA. Any advice on starting with kids would be much appreciated.
  14. Hi, not sure if you are still active on this site, but I am a mom of two kids (3.5 yrs and and 8 month old), and considering going to either an accelerated BSN program or to an Entry Level Masters program. I don't want to be away from my baby though, so I will do prerequisites until she is at least 2 yrs, maybe 2.5 years. I'm really concerned about the stress of nursing school on my full time mom duties, which I love and take seriously. We have never had a nanny nor have we done day care, just preschool for my son 9-3pm starting at age 3. The preschool has an all day option that a lot of kids go to and actually love, but I am hesitant about making the transition to being away from them so much. Do you also have any advice about actually making the transition to nursing as a second career? I was premed in college, got a BA in anthropology, went to film school, and became a yoga teacher. I'm interested in working with new moms, lactation, postpartum, and possibly going for NP. Would really appreciate any advice you have. I'm in LA.
  15. Hello, what did you decide to do? I am interested in applying to an ABSN program in LA and also the MECN program at UCLA. I'm interested though in becoming a nurse practitioner. Can you give me some advice about the programs? I also have two small kids.
