WGU RN-BSN 10/01/11 start...anyone with me?

Published

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone else is starting this program Oct 1st....? maybe we could start a support system of sorts....I am excited to finally get on the road to finishing this degree:nurse:!

My adviser mentioned something about web cam proctoring during tests.. Not sure what that entails though. Regardless, I guess we'll all be finding out soon enough! eekk :)

yes, I believe they send you a webcam for the proctored tests....but I think you might be able to go to a testing center also...not sure...anyone know this?

what if one has a webcam on his laptop?

Nope. You have to use their webcam that they automatically will send you. Setting it up is a PITA. Seriously.

It comes with no directions, and I had to play with it to learn how to put the thing into focus.

You also have to download software onto your computer (which did NOT make me happy!) that is to protect for security reasons- you can't open up other browsers while you are logged in to this site to take your tests.

But I only have one test to take this way, so it's all good.

It's official. My October 1st date is off as well as any other date with WGU. I got a phone call from them just a few minutes ago and....remember the re-eval needed as a result of the first eval that I NEVER got???? Well, guess what!!! She called asking me if I had a chance to complete the appeal form and return it. I told her that I returned it right after she sent it to me earlier LAST WEEK. Even had Sara to check into it 2 days ago to see what the deal was as I was told LAST WEEK that it would be a couple of days. Well, they still HAVE NOT DONE IT!!!! I told the lady to not even worry about doing the damn evaluation! I got my information in around the first of August and they not only screwed up the program that I was applying for but now, they don't even have the appeal. I sent her proof that I sent her a follow email as well as a copy of the email with the appeal attachment to the appeals department. This is ridiculous!!!!!! Thank God they are not the only university in this country!!

That is just nuts. I don't blame you for dumping them. They have really dropped the ball and were dishonest with you.

I'm losing complete faith in them regarding an Oct. 1st start date. They still haven't done my transcript evals, and they're asking for a money from me for tuition that is due this Monday. Yeah, right.

Same here!!! My funding is already there, payment is expected by September 25th, yet I can't get a simple evaluation done, let alone a re-eval.....they won't even tell me what the first one reflected, though I can just imagine seeing as how they didn't realize that I was an RN applying to their RN-BSN program!!!!:mad::devil::devil::devil:

This is a concern for me even though I have been admitted with an October 1 start date. I began the process June 8, with the hope (and expectation from them) that I would be on target to start Sept 1. Because of delay in transcript review, then appeal, then re-eval, I got pushed back to Oct 1. It was a frustrating experience.

Ultimately I am satisfied with my transcript eval and my proposed course of study, but because I now have some trust issues with them, I just hope there are no surprises. THey have not bugged me for money yet. My biggest fear is that once I pay, could they tack on extra courses? As in "Oh, I'm sorry, but we can't accept your A&P after all?"

Just a couple comments and update from my own recent experience...

My advisor said her husband is doing a degree through WGU and they sent a webcam, he didn't have a problem setting it up... basically prior to starting the exam he has to pan the room, show that he's not cheating and no one is in the room helping him. I think it's nice that they offer this option as it makes the exams/competencies pretty much entirely "home-based." As a side note, I am not really wanting to take any exam on a webcam much less pan a video shot of my home, and I asked about the nearest testing center to me (thinking that I'm in BFE central Illinois in a town of like 12,000 so I'll probably have to drive at least 45min)... and lo' and behold, there is a community college extension center literally 6-7 blocks from my house that I can take all proctored exams at. Yay!

I am anticipating my Oct 1 start date is going to get pushed back to Nov 1. Kind of irritated, but it's not their fault. I didn't realize that my AP Calculus exam was going to be necessary given the fact that I have an Associate's degree and RN license, but apparently because it was "part of the completion of the AAS" I have to provide it as a "transcript." Understandable. However, the College Board is in no hurry to send out archived (>4 yrs old) test scores, so while I faxed my request 1.5 wks ago, they "didn't get the fax" (even though a printed transmission said it went through OK) and my "duplicate" request was not received until 9/19/11... so their 7-10 business days for processing puts me well past the date that WGU needs to receive transcripts in order to start on Oct 1st.

So, anyone planning to start Nov 1, I'm probably gonna be there with you!

Fiiiiiiiinnnnnnallllllly got the transcript evals!!!!!

:dancgrp:

Time to breathe a sigh of relief and pull out the checkbook!!!!

Oh geez... That would be a big disappointment. I hope that doesn't happen.

I'm still trying to figure out how I got credit for Statistics. I've never taken it. It seems like it is a required gen ed course for nearly every BSN program. I've been studying it on the side when I should have been brushing up on Biochem. Oh well...I'm sure it will be caught when they do the second official review of my transcript or the re-eval of the eval that they seem to like to do...

Well tuition paid...its a lock..now hopefully my tuition reimbursement goes through...does anyone know if there is a list somewhere of testing sites that work with WGU? I would like to try that route before taking tests via a web cam. I actually think I only have one proctored exam to take so I would like to see if going to a testing center is feasible. I am in NY..Long Island area so if anyone from there has had any experience with that any info is very appreciated...Thanks!
