WGU RN-BSN 10/01/11 start...anyone with me?

Published

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone else is starting this program Oct 1st....? maybe we could start a support system of sorts....I am excited to finally get on the road to finishing this degree:nurse:!

spoke with someone from transcript evaluation department @ wgu this morning, for the October 1 start the evaluations are scheduled to be completed by the 23rd of September, so i guess i have another week and a half to see what classes i need to take, i could have sworn that they would be done in 10days, this really sucks not knowing:banghead:

after 4 months, i finally got a transcript eval email from wgu friday afternoon at 3:30 pm -too late to call and discuss, have to wait through the weekend again! biggest frustration now is that they are saying i have unmet reqs in anatomy, physiology, psych and microbiology. this despite chemistry, biology and 3 psychology/sociology classes i took before my adn program. ( they do give me credit for nutrition and biochemistry which it seems that several here have had to take). my adn transcript lists my a&p and microbiology as "integrated sciences" , so now i am submitting course descriptions and wait for a re-eval.

they are also listing basic english and math being unmet, though i tested out of those and got credit hours for them prior to adn also. since my transcript didn't list the type of test (clep) and the scores, they will not accept them (i took them more than 20 years ago and clep purges their records at 20 years).

so,, looking at my transcript eval, it seems like i would be starting all over... not gonna happen!

i mean, ... i've been a nurse for 30 years and i don't get any credit for a&p??? really??? and is it even possible to get a nursing degree without having met basic college english and math requirements???

sorry, this is more of a vent post than a helpful one, but i have just about had it. if the program wasn't so reasonably priced, i would have hung this on the hook. i have been admitted to ariz state, but i really wanted to see what my course of study would look like at wgu before i committed to asu.

also, just getting the transcript eval doesn't give you a course of study yet, but for me it looks like a bad case scenario. actually, i would not mind brushing up on my english and math and i know i will have to take statistics and humanities, but a&p really burns me.

again, sorry for the rant but thanks for listening!

my darn sentiments exactly!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad: the information that i received states certain requirements can be met by an associate or bachelors degree and others state it can be met (a&p, micro, etc.) if you hold those degrees in nursing...which we do. it says nothing about 'provided they have a lab component'. very misleading to say the least!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad: but i'm still waiting on my official evaluation, too.:D my retaking even part of the a&p is not up for debate.:lol2:

I'm waiting on transcript eval too, if it takes 4 months I will try somewhere else! I was told I should be starting 10/1! I'm nervous about the whole lab component thing for a&p, etc. I took those for my ADN but I don't think we got lab grades so it doesn't show on my transcript. I hope that doesn't cause an issue for me!

Ladies and gentlemen the lab portions are all you would need to take, and in my talking with other folks, they are really quire simple.

I should have my labpaks today or tomorrow and will let you know!

Wonder what their hold up is? I'm still waiting for transcript evals too. My counselor said I should be ready to start Oct. 1, but I'm not holding out hope for that. Communication from the school abruptly stopped in the last couple of weeks.

I did hear from them again today, after sending them course descriptions for my science courses and they have re-evaluated and given me credit for A&P and Microbiology. Whew!! I am going to call my enrollement counselor tomorrow and see where we stand.

I also need to touch base with the financial aid folks- I sent them info 2 months ago that looks to be still in the process of evaluation.

I don't understand why things have slowed down so much since my first contacts with them. My enrollment counselor is fairly prompt in her responses, but her hands have been tied with this transcript review process. Maybe it's just a busy time of year, with many people looking to go back to school.

Here's hoping we will both be students soon!

I'm wondering if I should be a little proactive and get course descriptions for these classes as well. My transcript does not show that there was a lab component for A&P and Micro. I'm thinking it might be an issue..

I would definitely be proactive and get those course descriptions if you can. I emailed someone at my CC ADN program and she emailed me the course descriptions the next day and I just forwarded those to WGU.

One of the holdups on my transcript eval was the issue of the CLEP tests on one of my colleges' transcript. Since there was no explanation of the CLEP score, they apparently just stopped reviewing both of my transcripts, which I didn't know until I called my enrollment counselor after waiting 2 weeks. THey wanted me to send a formal notice requesting the math and english be dropped off that transcript before they would evaluate the rest of it. Didn't make sense to me, but I did it and it moved more quickly after that.

Bottom line, keep in touch with your enrollment counselor, especially if it's been over the 10 days they say they need to do the transcript review.

I was just wondering...what is the passing rate of this school. I saw on their website of their first pinning in 2010 and yet none of the 5 graduates have gotten licensed here in California.

I did the same thing as Metroishka, and got full credit for Micro and A&P. That seriously would have been the deciding factor of WGU or another program, if they hadn't given me credit.

Hey all,

I am new to this topic. Let me start with a little introduction about myself. I'm a new grad. RN with an ASN degree from CA and I'm looking into online school to get my BSN/Master degree in nursing. There is a possibility that I am going to relocate to New York. Does anyone know if it's ok that I start WGU BSN program in California and still able to continue with the program if I moved to NY? It's online... does it matter where you live? Also, is there certain number of clinical hours to be completed? If I moved, will they hook me up with clinical facility in NY? I'm still trying to get a job in a hospital without much luck so I am not affiliate with any hospitals. Please advise. Thanks.
