WGU RN-BSN 10/01/11 start...anyone with me?

Published

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone else is starting this program Oct 1st....? maybe we could start a support system of sorts....I am excited to finally get on the road to finishing this degree:nurse:!

hey ladside-

I talked to my enrollment counselor about the biology classes because I was nervous about having to retake the classes as well- I did have a lab component with my anatomy and physiology classes but it was included in lecture, not separate courses if you know what I mean. She also told me that if you never took a lab component with the class that you don't have to take the whole class over again, just the lab portion. I don't know if that's helpful information to you or not. But I think WGU sounds amazing from what I've read about it so far! I really want to finish in 6 months! That's so encouraging to hear that your friend finished so quickly! I am jealous as well! I think you should go for it anyways-even if you do have to retake the Bio classes, it seems so worth it! Especially if you're good at writing papers. Well i'm really excited to start with all of you!! Keep on posting great information ;)

By the way... does anyone have Sara C. for their enrollment counselor?? I love her, she's awesome!

Yep, got her, but that won't help me pass the lab components. In my local college, I got an A in the lecture and failed the lab, which meant that I failed the entire course. That's why I went to EC in the first place for my ASN. Now, if there is someone here who can convince me that WGU's lab course is not bad, and I mean it will take a LOT to convince someone who is not a biology person, then maybe..... Either way, I'm set to graduate in May, at the latest the end of June. But I was hoping to push for this December with WGU. We'll see.

My lab paks are in the mail.

I will let you know when I get them in the mail what they are like. It doesn't seem that difficult, but, we'll see.

Hi! I have been reading this site, but just made an account. I just finished Excelsior on Aug. 19, and my liscence just posted yeasterday (YAY!!). I have applied to both Chamberlain with a possible start of Oct.24, and WGU with a possible start of Oct.1. WGU is cheaper, i'm used to independent study with Excelsior, and has the potential to be completed in 6 months. The problem is they still havent evaluated my transcripts, and I don't know how many additional classes I will need. Hopefully I will hear Monday, they told me I should have recieved an email by yeasterday afternoon. I am in Queens, NY.

Hi, I'm in Brooklyn, New York. I have applied to WGU, I have yet to have my transcripts evaluated. I got fed up and applied to Chamberlain College, so far I am so happy. It's more expensive, but they have started to evaluate my credits already. I just applied on Thursday, my counselor, has been great getting everything together for me. I don't have that with WGU, I feel they worked very well at getting me in...now I feel like they have left me out to dry. Most of us are happy with the length of time and cost of WGU, but I'm not sure if that's all that great.

Has anyone heard from Lisa1980, she was the most recent WGU graduate? I really would love to know how her experience was. I'll keep you guys posted on my progress.

Chamberlain has been much better at getting back to me, the enrollment counselor excited with me as I got a date for and applied for my RN. I know what I would need to take with them, and if money were no object it would definatly be my choice. But with them I wouldn't be able to start until the end of october anyway, I may as well wait to see what WGU says. Also I just acepted a job temp to FT in 3months, after that time they pay $600 for tuition reinbursement, not even a dent in Chamberlain's price. So hope against hope that WGU dosn't give me too many extra classes. I would like to hear more from people who have completed as well. I will be calling thier transcripts department again on Monday.

After 4 months, I finally got a transcript eval email from WGU Friday afternoon at 3:30 PM -too late to call and discuss, have to WAIT through the weekend AGAIN! Biggest frustration now is that they are saying I have UNMET reqs in Anatomy, Physiology, Psych and Microbiology. This despite Chemistry, Biology and 3 psychology/sociology classes I took before my ADN program. ( They DO give me credit for Nutrition and Biochemistry which it seems that several here have had to take). My ADN transcript lists my A&P and Microbiology as "Integrated Sciences" , so now I am submitting course descriptions and wait for a re-eval.

THey are also listing basic English and Math being unmet, though I tested out of those and got credit hours for them prior to ADN also. Since my transcript didn't list the type of test (CLEP) and the scores, they will not accept them (I took them more than 20 years ago and CLEP purges their records at 20 years).

SO,, looking at my transcript eval, it seems like I would be starting all over... NOT gonna happen!

I mean, ... I've been a nurse for 30 years and I don't get any credit for A&P??? REALLY??? And is it even possible to get a nursing degree without having met basic college English and Math requirements???

Sorry, this is more of a vent post than a helpful one, but I have just about had it. If the program wasn't so reasonably priced, I would have hung this on the hook. I have been admitted to Ariz State, but I REALLY wanted to see what my course of study would look like at WGU before I committed to ASU.

Also, just getting the transcript eval doesn't give you a course of study yet, but for me it looks like a bad case scenario. Actually, I would not mind brushing up on my English and Math and I know I will have to take Statistics and Humanities, but A&P really burns me.

Again, sorry for the rant but thanks for listening!

It's funny how some people have to take Biochemistry and Nutrition while others don't. I don't understand how they do their credit evaluations. I really love the fact that you could possibly be done with the program in six months and the cost isn't bad at all.

My employer reimburses up to six credits per semester, If I don't have to come out of pocket too much I'm going with Chamberlain.
