I am getting ready to start mid November. (Thankfully they are trying a new program to start classes mid month) is anyone else starting soon? For those who have started, how are things going? Any advice? Thanks
Hi, I just started the program and have one course completed so far. Everything is very straightforward and easy to follow once they open up the Portal for you. There's not much that can be done before classes start unless you want to read the student handbook or watch some short videos on the WGU Channel in the Portal. Other than that, it's been recommended on here by a few nurses to buy software from PERRLA for help with writing APA format papers. I haven't done that yet but plan to. There's also a Facebook discussion board going (WGU RN to BSN Discussion Group) with a lot of good info posted about the classes, what to expect, etc...

Thank you, I will look for the Facebook group.
I cannot find the facebook link. How do I get signed up for that?
When you are on the site, do a search for WGU RN to BSN Discussion Group, and this should bring up the link.

Hello everyone.
I am starting WGU RN-BSN on December 1st. I just got my transfer eval. It seems like I only have to complete the BSN courses and nutrition - 25units. Is this typical? One of my RN courses had a nutrition component - should I even ask to have them evaluate it, or nutrition is no big deal?
I am excited to join you and get moving on this!

If your nutrition course was part of the nursing curriculum, meaning a "nursing" type nutrition course, I wouldn't bother challenging it. My nutrition course was accepted but it was a 3-HR "Intro to Nutrition" that was required for the nursing program I did but not actually a nursing course. Honestly you will prolly pass the course easily so... Up to you! I started 10/1/11 and only have nursing courses except for "Lit Art & Humanities" to take. Just finished my first nursing course, gonna tackle the Lit class then all nursing here on out!
Good luck to you!

For all who have done nutrition, are all those concept maps graded/required? Do you have to do all of them to be able to take the assessment? Or can you jump right into the assessment without doing all those other things in the COS?
IMHO: don't waste your time on any part of any COS unless the material is unfamiliar and you need to study to learn it. The tasks in taskstream and the objective assessments are the only things graded, therefore the only things required, to pass. The concept maps, discussion boards, case studies, etc are all there to help people learn the material... So this is where competency based learning comes into play- look at the tasks and if you're competent then just do the and move on.
:) hope this helps. Good luck!!

Thanks ReggaeRN.
I am completely comfortable with the material and I am making 90-100 on the end of chapter tests. I just wanted to make sure I could blow off the COS stuff and not get in to trouble.

hello all, can anyone help me with answering these questions. i really appreciated.
Anyone finished rn to bsn and applied for NP program ?
do you have any problem transferring your classes?.
Is WGU recognized by hospitals in Illinois ?.
I'm interested to this program due to the cost as I'm unemployed RN and hospitals in Illinois won't hire a nurse without BSN.
thanks in advance.
