Western University MSN-E 2015 Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I'm new to allnurses and haven't seen a thread on Western yet for 2015. Just wanted to start it to see who else is applying so we can all give each other moral support!

I saw that every year the application deadline is postponed? Do you think it will be happening this year as well?

Wow that's a really long time.

At least we have other options too! we'll see...

How was the today's early acceptance day?

I received an e-mail today inviting me to interview. However, I think I will be turning down my spot.

Why are you turning down your spot?

I've actually been accepted to another school that offers a similar program but allows me to finish my master's with a nurse practitioner specialty rather than having to take it post-masters.

Me too, I don't see this program as being worth it considering it takes so long to finish. I'm not going to take the interview either. Good luck in your future studies!

I interviewed for this program 3 years ago. The class started in 2012 was the last class that could choose MSN-E with FNP option. Even with that option, the entire program was 4 years in length. It practically took as long as medical school. I am not here to criticize this program. If your mind is setted to become a NP, there are many options that can take as little as 3 years to become a NP. If you are not sure that you want to become a NP but wanting to obtain a MSN, this program can be a good option for you. I had a few friends who went through Accelerated BSN program, then went straight into NP program without RN work experience. I just want to throw in my two cents because I had been in the same place before and I know it was a difficult decision to make. Think of what you want before making a huge financial and life commitment for any programs. Good luck!

ALXiong, did you end up going with Western's program?

I didn't go with Western because I attended another school with a shorter time commitment for master entry with NP specialty. And it is closer to where I live.

I went to the Early Acceptance Day and met some people :) It was fun. Socal is as ridiculously hot as I remembered though.

I found out that I got accepted into Emory on the same day though, so I will not be going to this program. The length of the program also deters me too. At least I got free food! :D I don't think I ended up meeting bro.nurse though :(
