Hello! Is there anyone who is going thru West Coast University in LA/OC? How was your experience with the school? Thanks!
Well, I am now finishing up my last term and will be done in one week. I personally loved this school! I think its the best!! Yes its expensive, Yes its fast paced, and yes some teachers read from the power points! LOL but I have been to other colleges including CAL states and junior colleges, and they too have teachers who just read off the power point. I think this school has a lot to offer. They baby you by giving you all kinds of reviews for tests and all kinds of help to pass! The teachers are all available by personal cell phone and email all the time. They only take about a day ,if that, to respond to any questions. This has never been my experience at a regular school. It makes me sad:sniff: that people think because you pay a lot of money for school that it means things are easier or they just hand over a diploma. THis is not true, you really have to work and learn at least that was my experience. They give you a lot of help by giving you points for attendance and easy points to get to help your grade but the most weighted factor is HESI and no one can help you pass that except your studying. With any school or program you get what you put into it. Many people will blame others for thiershort comings in life, and with everything we do in school and through our careers we only get what we put in. So if you want to be a nurse, which ever way you choose, it will be the right way for you. Don't be hateful to other for what paths they have chosen.
I totally agree with sabrosura98 (BTW congrats on your graduation). If you looked at ANY school, you will find someone, somewhere to criticize it. That is true anywhere, whether it be public or private. I am in my 2nd term at WCU-OC and it is great. If you do not study and work hard, you WILL NOT pass, no matter how much money you pay. Having gone to CC for many years only to be told that I still don't have enough registration priority to get into a simple anatomy class, let alone the nursing part, it is so nice to now have the anatomy class behind me, with an A, I might add. I didn't pay for the A, I worked my butt off. I have 5 kids, help my husband run a family business, etc. and I still managed to do it. It wasn't easy but it was doable. The major difference I see between profs. at WCU and CC is that the profs. at WCU truly want to do everything they can to help you succeed. Sadly, that is not the same with several profs. I had at CC. In fact, there was one professor at Cypress College, who taught science courses. He would put very uneccesarily obscure and tricky questions on the exam, something only someone like him would know, and then laugh when most of the class would fail. I think that is horrible. As for the cost of WCU, it is a private university. Have any of you that are complaining about cost, checked into the cost of any other private universities in the So Cal area? LMU - $40,000 per year, Chapman, USC, USD, etc. all run about the same. Considering it now usually takes about 5 years to complete a BS or BA degree, you are looking in the neighborhood of $200,000. That does NOT include dorm or books and supplies, etc. I know this because I have a college age daughter and one who is in 10th grade, so we have been looking at various schools. So for those who are saying WCU is expensive, ALL private schools are expensive everywhere. I can truly say that if it wasn't for WCU I would not ever have a chance at becoming an RN. I am 41 and if I had to do it through CC I would probably be close to 50 when I graduate, if I actually was lucky enough to get into the nursing part at all. So, for me, WCU is perfect because I would most likely not be able to do nursing any other way anytime soon.

Yes! YOU ARE RIGHT! thank you for your positive comment! some ppl need to see the bigger picture!
Hi!
I'm new here, and I go to West Coast University-Ontario. I'm in my 2nd term and in the straight BSN program, and I'm so happy here...so far. :) I start my nursing classes next term and can't wait. I think that the classes are challenging at least the ones I've taken so far. Right now, I'm taking Pathophysiology and I have to study my butt off to keep my A.
I also agree that it may seem pricey, but it's the same that you're going to pay at any other private university. The price scared me at first when I went to my meeting with my advisor, but god, I had terrible experiences at public universities. I went to CSULB, and I couldn't even get into my pre-req classes. I would crash them and I would be the 20th person on the sign up list. I went to CSULA and finished my pre-reqs. I applied to their nursing program, but they said my points weren't enough.
Overall, I'm happy at WCU, and I would recommend it to those considering it.
9fingers,
There are classes scheduled for weekends and many classes scheduled during the evening. Although, it depends on the class. I'm taking pathophysiology right now and the only class section is offered on Saturday mornings. Last term I took biochem and I was scheduled for day classes. The only time you could switch is if you know someone in the other classes. Basically, sometimes there's isn't much of choice of when you take the class. If it's only offered during the day, then you have to take it during the day. Lots of people actually find people to switch with on the WCU facebook page.
As for clinicals, I haven't started my clinicals, but I've been told at orientation that they have contracts with over 70 hospitals for all three campuses. I've seen people post on facebook that they go to Kindred. I've also been told clinicals can be anytime on weekends and in the evenings. It depends on the space they have and the contracts they have with the hospitals. I start nursing classes in 4 weeks so I'll come back to post because we have to do a nursing orientation then.
Dear Glow RN & all ,
Your input of self-experince with WCU was invaluable one !
I was told that it cost about 100 000 USD/year in WCU, is that true ?
One of the BEST things of WCU is NO waiting list , and I would love to know how you guys afford the money?
Will you feel it become a lifelong debt for you ?
