Hello! Is there anyone who is going thru West Coast University in LA/OC? How was your experience with the school? Thanks!

Hi Kit,

I was wondering if you knew anthing about the straight BSN program? I heard from a few of the posts that WCU was not regionally accredited. Do you know what they mean by this? I will be starting WCU Feb 2nd 2009/ ontario ca and want to be sure i can use the degree from WCU to further my education to MSN. Thanks for your reply in advance.

I may be wrong with your questions. I think what they are talking about is that the school credits are not recognized by most of Universities. But I know WCU is working on it by continiously increasing the passing percentage of the Hesi testing. i do not know about the BSN because I took the adn. But I have talked to University of phoenix and have my transcript evaluated and they said they will credit it. I would go to WCU but I like to try the online which WCU doesnt have. if you have concerns. you can also ask the CA RN board.

thanks for your fast response Kit. =D i will check with the nursing board.

no problem... good luck..:up::up::up:

Hi all,

The passing rate for the HESI for the BSN (straight, w/o adn or lvn) is 80% for math, vocab, read comprehension, and grammar.

o wow! i remember when I started our hesi for nursing transition is 75 and when I finished last august 08 was 85%. I guess they are pushing it. so far my batch's NCLEX passing rate was 94% yahoo!!! finished school end of august and took the NCLEX first week of September. I may say Hesi played a good teaching ground in terms of test taking. because when I took my NCLEX I was pretty confident and stopped at 75. I really hope the school will be recognized pretty soon. ( my only wish as an alumni, hahhaha)

I will keep you all posted of my findings on WCU's new BSN program. The admissions guide said it was newly opened. I can't find much about the school regarding their BSN so I hope my future posts help others consider WCU. I hope that they will be accredited by the CCNE by the time I finish.

How long is the program (LVN to RN) if you already have done the prereqs? How long is each prereq? Where does the Anaheim campus do clinicals? thanks!

Hi BLS... I don't know anything about the LVN to RN program but if it is like the Straight BSN program it will reduce the length of time you spend in the program if the classes were taken within the last 5 years. I think you can appeal if they are older. Each of the classes for the straight BSN are 10 weeks (2-3 classes per 10 week session) I dont know about the Anaheim Campus either but here is the information for the admissions councilor I speak to. He's very nice and helpful (so much so, I have him saved on my phone memory) I am sure he can give you more information or give you a contact for the Anaheim campus. My best advice is to just go to an information session and ask all the questions to your hearts content. I would bring in a transcript (at least an unofficial)to see which classes you can check off. This would bring down your cost for the program with the more prereqs you can finish before going to West Coast. I hope this helps.

I spoke to admissions and they said that there was going to be a visit from CCNE in April for accredidation consideration. WCU is accredited by ACICS and is accepted by BRN. I am not sure the difference between the different types of accred, if anyone knows more about it can you reply?

ACICS is a national accreditation, not regional, and from what i've learned on here regional accreditation is necessary to transfer to CSU/UC programs. I think (and i'm not positive) that if they become CCNE accredited you are much more likely to be accepted in to another school, but until that happens the units you earn at WCU won't be transferable. I hope this helps and if anything i said was incorrect please correct me! I myself have been trying to research this school and am trying to figure out what all the acronyms really mean lol Oh and does anyone know how likely it is that they will actually become CCNE accredited? Are schools often looked at but not chosen?

WCU is now CCNE accredited.

Yes, I just heard from a few friends that attend WCU and on Facebook that WCU is accredited by CCNE now. I looked on the CCNE website and it shows WCU- Los Angeles. Not sure if the accreditation is good for all the campuses or not.
