Hiiii Everyone !
hoping someone can help me out here. I'm waiting to schedule an appt. with West Coast University as soon as I finish studying for my hesi and I'm getting nervous thinking about tuition. If any of you wcu grads or anyone who as gone through the process your feedback is very much appreciated.... What are the chances I'll have to pay for school while I'm actually in school? I'm okay with all the loans and what not at this point I've accepted I'm going to be stuck with one either way and going to school is the only way to make a future. Just add it to my tab

Choose a different school. 136,000 dollars in debt will financially paralyze you for nearly a lifetime.
Seriously, choose elsewhere. It's as easy as that.

If you're paying 136,000 go Ivy League....

Yeah but I went to a trade for my lvn and going to a cal state or UC just isn't realistic bc I don't have any pre reqs or generals and with that being said adds almost 3 years alone to getting my degree so trade is basically my only option.

Doesn't WCU require general education classes? You'll still be paying thousands for a chemistry class, versus $300 at a community college...

Cni college in Orange and Stanbridge college in Irvine just opened ADN program. It's way cheaper than WCU. I believe 65k including all the prereqs.. Yeah it is ADN not BSN but you can transfer your ADN to Western Governor University for BSN which is a lot cheaper than doing straight BSN to WCU

It is easy access to Federally-backed student loans and other form of college loans why individuals like Leitha can approach such a High Tuition Institution. Schools such as WCU will eventually bring the house of cards down. Which well-thinking individual would go to a University the caliber of WCU and pay in excess of $136K for a program and be coy about the whole thing by saying that...."I don't have any pre reqs or generals". Are you saying that somehow WCU doesn't see the need for pre-requisites an/or General Education requirements? When will the government cut off the spigot so that schools like WCU cannot continue to ripoff desperate individuals like Leitha, who wants to get an BSN the easy way...... by purchasing it! Prospective students to schools such as WCU think it is easy to get in (they accept anyone) and they do not fail anyone, despite their poor NCLEX pass rate and poor Job Placement Rates.

About the prereqs--be very, very careful which ones you have avoided. Check this out if you are planning to be licensed in California--under Required Prerequisites Board of Registered Nursing - Status
Not much point getting the BSN if you can't be licensed where you want to be.

As far as accepting anyone, yes I completely agree. As far as not failing anyone, I absolutely disagree. Based on my experience with WCU, I saw numerous amount of students fail class after class. The university has a policy that after two fails you are dismissed. Therefore, if you are able to keep up with the school work you will be fine, if you choose to attend. This policy lead to weeding many of the "bad apples" out thereby increasing the NCLEX pass rate. As far as job placement rates, for one we are in southern CA making the job market for new grads is not great. Additionally, new grads need to bust their butts during school, and obtain many certifications in order to appeal to employers, which has nothing to do with the school you attend. I see posts on here all the time where new grads not only from WCU, but other schools and/or states are still unemployed.
I would suggest doing your pre-reqs at a community college so that way the tuition is cheaper, however talk to them first and make sure that they will accept those classes. Then apply for financial aid, and scholarships. The school itself, offers scholarships as well. Good luck, wish you all the best!

I seriously was considering WCU in Dallas. I had all of my pre reqs out of the way. I was told it was going to be 38,000 dollars. Nope!!!! I signed up with Excelsior paying 7,000 total. I got accepted to UTA BSN two weeks after signing up with EC.
