West Coast University in CA( LVN-RN )

Published

Hello,

I am interested in pursuing my RN after I have passed my LVN boards exam. I don't know anyone who has attended the school. If you know any information about the school or any school re: LVN_RN (BSN) I would gladly appreciate it!!!

Thanks =)

:coollook:

Hey rex3838 did you work and go to wcu at the same time? I am in the same boat you were in. I am the same age, lvn, and NEED my bsn. Tuitiok is staggering but what can I do? I can't hang out waiting to get into cc classes then nursing program.

I did not work for almost 18 months of the program, I took the bridge from LVN to RN. For the BSN it's a bit longer/ some people are working/ depends how well you take test and remember the subject. For myself it took longer. What ever you do, just go for it. The longer you wait, the longer to reach your goal.

Hi sorry you had such a hard time but I dont think this is true for everyone else. I am attending WestCoast for my ADN and so far my instructors are very kind and helpful. Anatomy was hard but mostly because you only have class for 9 wks. You should have gone to see the DON if you were having such problems..

No more LVN-Rn bridge program?! Damn how on earth do they expect to have nurses with this nursing shortage by not allowing anyone into the programs. Its becoming as hard as becoming a doctor

I wish they would come back with this program! There is no other program like this in los angeles county! Not fair

hi,

i am getting ready to graduate in a couple of weeks, at first it was going ok. until you get into the nursing classess, that's when you are on your own. these teachers, just read off a power point, i can do that myself. they have you do these group projects, like power point presentations. so you can learn from them, however you do not, more stress to complete them/apa papers!!!! when you take the hesi exams, which are exit's that you must pass to continue to the next term, more stress. if you don't pass you have to repeat the class again for a popping amount of $10,000.00. i am so done with this school, have i learned anything no way, i am so scared to go out there, cause honest, i don't feel safe, only what i know as a lvn!!!!! also as of this year nov 2009, they will no longer offer lvn-rn bridge program, i did call to confirm and it's true. they gave me no reason at all, they said they needed to concentrate on there bsn program. maybe the boards realized how stupid this program is, and complaints of students. who knows!!! if you need more info, let me know!!!!

hi,

do you know approximate hesi passing rate for each nursing term? it does not matter with any three campuses. in addition, what is the minimum time to take the hesi test within entire nursing terms? i heard no more than 2 times, and if you fail the test on the third time, then you have to take the class again. here is the question, if i fail third time, there is no chance to attend the school? why do you think many students fail the exit hesi tests even though they got an "a" in their classes? in addition, do you think i can change the nursing class schedule if i ask to academic dean? did you see any similar case like changing the nursing plan and graduates earlier? please help me~ thank you in advance.

EVERYONE DOING NURSING READ!!!!!!

People need to understand that it really doesn't matter where u go to school to get ur RN, hospitals don't really care, I know I work at a hospital. Second, yes west coast is fast pace but they don't guarantee a job. The healthcare industry is flooded with RN's now!!! Trust me even though they post up jobs, u don't get full time or even part time. They post the jobs to slowly weed out the high paying nurses n pay the new grads less, wayyyy less. So if u think that u r going to be making money.... Ur not. U need to become a nurse because u have a passion to help the sick. If and when u get hired u will only be on call. All new RN are at the bottom of the schedule, so that means that u will most likely be working when they call u, and other workers call off...most workers call off night weekends. The average pay for nurses is in the 20's per hour. I personally have 4 friends that graduated from west coast and are RN's since last year and some this year, and they still don't have a job!!!! Take in consideration that the friends I talk about are all LVN working nurses!! So even experience didn't get them in. It's all in who u know to get u in where u want to be!!!! So before u go getting a loan of 130,000 for the RN-BSN make sure you already work at a hospital!!! It's easier to transfer jobs than to try n get in as an RN along with all the 50 million new grads trying to get a job!!!! Pls do not see RN as a job, see it as a career!!!!! These are lives we are dealing with.

P.S. I am not an RN, I am a therapist at a hospital, so don't think I'm giving u this information to discourage you, just giving u the truth!!!! If u are a person seeking RN for all the right reasons I wish u the best!!!!! Don't get discouraged we NEED good RNs!

Where you go to school DOES matter. Don't let anyone let you think differently.

Hi, I'm new at this and was wondering if I could get some info on wcu or wgu. I'm currently a new grad with lvn n got all my prereqs done. I was wondering if anybody has done the wgu program and what they thought about it. Thanks alot and hope to hear from you soon.

I seriously considered Western Governors. I liked their program, but I could not fit it into my schedule. I know of West Coast and feel that their tuition is about ten times more than the cost of other similar programs (even more if you compare community and state colleges). What I cannot understand about West Coast is why it is so expensive.

The cost of Western Governors is far more acceptable acceptable. If I remember, you pay a quarter, semester, or is it a flat fee for 6 months--it is not based on the amount of units you take. You can take as many units as you wish during that time.

I am very seriously considering Western Governors for my masters after I complete my BSN with ISU.

I just spoke with someone from there too. I really do like the fast paced environment but the tuition really is a turn off. Since I already have a BA in another field and all prerequisites completed the tuition would be reduced dramatically. The fact that West Coast University is CCNE accredited makes it a bit better. If WGU would accept my chemistry class (50% was biochem) & accepted my classes from my LVN program then I would have went there and used my cousins address so I wouldn't be denied entrance.

This school sucks they are unorganized and giant pricks. I have been a student there since 2009. Trust me when I say it is the Devry of Nursing schools. The instructors are good but administration is only worried about money and student services are lacking. The school tells us not to bad mouth the school because it will cheepen the degree but I don't care as long as I have my license I will have a job.I will just won't hang that diploma on my wall. They are not wasc accredited yet.and the program cost is $136000.00. Check out Western Govenors University .It's way cheaper and Wasc accredited.

I graduated from this school and I think the school is only unorganized for clinicals all the other things run very smooth. Most teachers were good and as with any other school we did have a teacher that sucked once in a while. I learned a lot and I have to agree with the school about bad mouthing the school. There are no many jobs right now for nurses my friend and all these comments do not help all of those that are looking for jobs a lot. Having a license does not mean you have a job, I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and still no hospitals want to hire me, if you look in other threads most students are looking for jobs an average of 6 months.
